Coaching Carousel 2026

yep, maybe Nate can start changing that perception next offseason.

I guess but at the same time it's still Sean McVay calling the plays. Crazy things is Joe Brady and Ronald Curry have their connection from coaching with the saints under Sean Payton and he was bought in/ hired to the bills once the bills promoted Joe Brady to offensive coordinator officially but once Joe Brady was promoted to head coach instead of promoting Ronald Curry to offensive coordinator Brady hired Pete Carmichael instead. It's kind of obvious this league doesn't recognize minorities as geniuses or smart enough as play callers unless you calling plays on defense to a degree.

Bryan Leftwich was the buccaneers offensive coordinator when they won the super bowl and he hasn't gotten a second chance yet to be the offensive coordinator. He hasn't coached in the NFL since Tom Brady retired.

Why is it stupid?
Because I consider it more "racist," it doesn't give them a real opportunity.
It's just a bit of bureaucracy, doing two interviews out of obligation with anyone, as long as they're from a minority group, and that's it, without any real chance of getting the job, no matter how well-prepared they are.
I think this is the basis of Brian Flores's lawsuit.
Any rule to promote a minority is racist per se; you don't hire them for their ability, but for their color or race.

But anyway, it's just a personal opinion

And for what it's worth, I'd have a problem with Weaver as a DC if it was a play calling gig. But with it not being that, I feel like he's a perfect fit. Based on everything I've heard, his players absolutely love him. And no, I don't care what they were saying in Miami. That team was a mess and there's a reason McDaniel doesn't have a HC gig right now...

As a non-play calling DC, I like Weaver. His leadership will be valuable. His playing and previous DC experience will be valuable. His expertise on the DL will be valuable.

This is still Minter’s defense but now he has someone to run things while he has to handle other HC responsibilities.

I know Argentina Raven may not like this part, but this can also turn into 2 3rd round picks pretty easily. I like the move, but I am surprised he hasn’t brought anyone over from LAC. Unless it’s just not reported yet.

I am torn on McDaniels.

I just don't think that team wasn't winning games because of their coach

Depends how you look at it. Unsure if it was by design or just a lack of leadership on McDaniel's part, but all of the reports have seemingly said the players ran the show down there. So it may not be on him directly, but there's a heavy indirect cause if that's true.

I think Weaver is the best choice since we couldn't get Leonhard. It's still Minter's defense, and now you just added a great leader to a young staff.

and the DL was the best it's been post-Brooks under Weaver

as long as you're happy with him as a teacher and a communicator, it'll be fine
and you get the benefit of a guy who can help Minter with some of the HC/leadership stuff (if he needs that help)

the talk about his scheme being confusing and not making sense in miami is a slight concern
but his comfort with mike macdonald's scheme when they were both here, and the way all the players absolutely adore him when he was their positional coach should be reassuring

That same soft ass Miami defense was complaining about Fangio and look what he went on to do in Philly.

Glad to have Weaver back in more of a leadership role and someone Minter can lean on.

rules like that aren't mandating that guys get hired

but it does force teams to either confront the lack of diversity within their staff/hiring options or to open up their network beyond easy nepotism and actually find people to interview who are able and qualified

it's about access - historically minorities don't get access to the old boy's club and so they never have a chance at promotion - now franchises at least forced to interview voices outside the circle

That’s been the word on the street for a while now. I think they highlighted that in a Hard Knocks episode or something. That reason you gave (players running the show) is exactly what made me cautious about McDaniel. He may get positive feedback from players because the players are running the show so of course it’s great to them. He doesn’t strike me as a guy who can really takeover the team. That one video of him getting mad after the one loss that would be “the greatest thing that ever happened to us because we say it is” encapsulates it for me

I think I like the Weaver hire. He brings an old school element to the team and adds some check and balances. And maybe he gets us 2 3rd round comp picks. He’s been a HC candidate multiple times now so his time should be coming. I think he would be great at helping Minter with experience and setting things up on the day to day too

the benefit that you get from weaver - the skillset that he has over a guy like Leonhard - is the leadership and maturity - the kinds of skills and characteristics that got him various HC interviews

i was not excited about Weaver as an HC because of his lack of schematic success and acumen but there's no doubting his strength as a communicator and positional teacher
