The WR Thread

He'll be 24 by the end of his rookie year. I thinl thats where hes comming from. His second contract wont come till hes 27/28 and im not sure he'll get that big contract feom us
Ok so 2 years older than the average rookie. At least we know he's got the grown man body and doesn't need more time to physically mature. Also 28-29 is not overly old for a wr, a lot of WRs are in their primes in their late 20s, the ravens have a stellar track record of WRs in their 30s, we have squeezed as much out of old WRs as a lot of teams do with young ones.

I was a little overhyped on Anthony miller after seeing some awesome plays by him, but now that the dust has settled I think I gotta give it back to Ridley, his explosiveness and route running is nothing short of incredible, with damn good hands

If we can draft a WR that works out, I'll gladly sacrifice a year or two of production (which is if we resign him)

You still have Miller as a round 1 prospect?

Ya im with you on that. But 28/29 year olds dont get big money. I was implying that it sucks for ridley cause he'll probably never really make big money. And if hed want it after his rookie contract he wouldnt get ozzie to budge.

I still like Miller a lot but yea hes not close to ridley in terms of overall talent.

Have you noticed a ball security issue with miller though. It seems like he fumbles once a game this year. And some of them wouldnt happen if he protected the ball better. Just something to nit pick lol. Still would love to have him. Either one of them would do wonders for us right now.

i mean if he plays well enough to get a 2nd contract it likely comes after the new CBA which should mean he gets skyrocketing money

On my personal rankings absolutely, I wouldn't bet money that he goes first round though.

I have only watched 1 live game of millers and only watched 2 other games on draftbreakdown. I haven't seen any fumbles yet.

90% of mock drafts I've seen had us taking Calvin Ridley, because he fits needs but mostly because he's from Alabama. So much that I kinda brushed him off the radar. But after watching some tape, I wouldn't mind using a first pick on him. Fast, silky smooth route running and most importantly, natural hands catcher.
If we draft him, be prepared for them Alabama connection talks to keep coming on future mock drafts haha.

Side note: funny / crazy fact, when looking up Calvin, I see he's the same age as amari cooper pretty much. Both born in 1994.

Well Amari Cooper was very young when he came out and Calvin Ridley is a little older than normal, but that's not really a bad thing. Could also be a little more mature.

To me Cain and Ridley are 1A and 1B. Both great route runners, Ridley is the more explosive but Cain has better body control and plays a tad bigger. I don't think we should pursue them if we pick inside the top 10 but outside the top15 they should be priorities.

And a good route runner is what we need. I believe a wr that is a good route runner can get acclimated to the nfl much quicker and has a better chance of succeeding.

Michael Gallup is an interesting prospect. Hes got good size, strong hands, and has decent but not great route running. Hes pretty tough to bring down after the catch. Doesnt look the fastest but isnt terribly slow either. I think you guys will like this kid

I have a very hard time projecting what he's going to be. Which makes him that much more introguing to me.

Im pretty intrigued about David Sills V. His story is quite incredible. He was offered a scholarship by Lane Kiffin at 12 years old to go to USC as a QB. He ended going to WV and sucked at qb so they put him at WR. He did ok but wanted to be a qb so he went to a small school to be a qb. He didnt do too well and decided to go back to WV who still had his scholarship or something (they basically left the door open for him to come back as a WR). Hes now leading the country with 15 touchdown catches. Hes long as hell and still has to fill out his frame and develop into his body. Hes no where near a finished product. I think he could be a great late round gem. Im not sure he'll get picked super high considering hes somewhat of a one year wonder

Amari said Ridley was better than he was at Alabama. That’s high praise. He’s exactly the kind of WR we need. I’m just a little wary of drafting a WR high, unless we change coordinators and implement a system for him to succeed. Otherwise, just sigh a veteran.

I can’t imagine Marty for the rest of the season, let alone 2018.

I think we're going to have to draft one highly anyways. If Ridley is there and we end up in 15-32 position of the draft, then there's a good chance he will be our pick.

Every year I kinda get that type of feeling with a guy who I feel like would be our pick that we shouldn't sleep on. On the old boards I really thought that there was a good chance Humphrey's would be a Raven and I think the Ravens just value guys who can give them value. Just because it doesn't feel like they're a fit here doesn't mean that we won't pick them. I really think that there's a good chance Calvin Ridley will be our pick if he's there for us.
