Jesse Minter Head Coach

interesting also that after everything he said at the presser, on the snippet when he interrupted Jamison Hensley, he basically said that in actuality this was EDC and Sashi's hire that he approved but ultimately it was their decision

this despite the fact that he said he had the power and they had opinions

i wonder if, as the search progressed, the importance of scheme and philosophy became more important than traditional leadership qualities and so he deferred to the expertise of the football experts more than maybe he would have 20 years ago when scheme was less fundamental of a quality for a successful HC
I really think they, as a collective, had Minter picked as the favorite before they fired Harbs. Just seems as if Steve is one that would stay two steps ahead in everything he does, especially a move of this magnitude.

I never took his explanation as EDC and Sashi didn't have power. That was definitely in reference to the players.
In fact, I believe I remember Steve saying that EDC and Co. were the ones running the search and that he would sit in on the finalists and "offer" advice. Maybe point out a couple things that they may have not seen. But, that it would ultimately be their call.

And an offense that doesn’t turn the ball over.
Fun fact:

Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen both average about 2.5 turnover worthy plays per playoff game, but Allen has benefited from A LOT of luck in the playoffs (only 4 fumbles lost on 15 fumbles!)

In 2023 and 2024, when Monken was coaching the playoffs, Lamar actually had the second highest EPA/play of any quarterback, behind only Allen.

Lamar has had TWO defensive turnovers forced in the playoffs in his eight games. Drake Maye, on the other hand, has a defense that forced eight turnovers and allowed two touchdowns in three games this playoffs alone.

When Flacco won the Super Bowl, he not only benefitted from dropped interceptions on his own passes, but also from 10(!!!) turnovers forced, including a crucial pick-6 against the Broncos.

The offense has to perform more consistently, absolutely, but Lamar and the offense have suffered from really poor luck where just about every turnover worthy play is capitalized on by the opposing defense and the Ravens own defense is failing to force their own turnovers or capitalize when the opportunities arise.

Edit: I should add, those stats were reflected for 2018-2024.

With Allen, his turnover luck came down to earth a bit against the Broncos, but that's more in line with what should be expected overall.

If Lamar had slightly better turnover luck and fewer drops, the narratives around him would be completely different purely because the ravens would have a couple of extra playoff wins

When you drill down into the underlying numbers, Lamar’s actually one of the better playoff QBs in everything outside of wins

Rex Ryan DC?

Makes sense on a couple levels. For us he'd fit that "greybeard ex-HC/Leslie frazier" role. For him a soft landing where he can get his feet wet with the newer generation of his defense.
