Coaching Carousel 2026

With a lot of these new coaches, I know nothing about so I start by asking AI a few questions. Here is what I found for Lou Esposito. It’s a decent list of guys that show not only an eye for talent but an ability to develop players too.

Esposito is credited with developing numerous All-Americans and NFL draft picks, particularly during his time at Michigan and Western Michigan.
  • Mason Graham (Michigan): A first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, Graham was a consensus All-American and a finalist for the Outland and Nagurski Trophies under Esposito.
  • Kenneth Grant (Michigan): An All-American interior lineman who was also selected in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
  • Josaiah Stewart (Michigan): An edge rusher who earned All-Big Ten honors and became a third-round NFL draft pick.
  • Ali Fayad (Western Michigan): The 2021 MAC Defensive Player of the Year, who ranked fourth nationally in sacks (13.0) that season.
  • Braden Fiske (Western Michigan/Florida State):Recruited and developed by Esposito at WMU before becoming a high NFL draft pick.
  • Marshawn Kneeland (Western Michigan): An All-MAC performer developed by Esposito who transitioned to the NFL.
  • Drew Nowak (Western Michigan): The 2011 MAC Defensive Player of the Year and a Phil Steele All-American.
  • Freddie Bishop (Western Michigan): An All-MAC defensive lineman who went on to play for the New York Jets.
  • Robert Spillane (Western Michigan): A standout linebacker during Esposito's tenure who became a starter in the NFL.
  • Paul Hazel (Western Michigan): An All-MAC selection who spent time in the NFL with the Browns, Texans, and Giants.

as has been the case with a bunch of these new hires

idk anything about them other than the fact that the fans of the team they've been poached from are sad to see them go and worried about replacing them

seeing lots of michigan fans concerned about how to replace esposito which is a good sign i think

I find it interesting that Minter chose to go to the collegiate level for coaches at basically every position group on the defensive side of the ball. I wonder if he feels he can mold them to teach how he wants his defense to play. Or if he found specific guys who teach the way he wants his defense to play.
