Coaching Carousel 2026

Possibly but he might want to be the broncos quarterback coach instead especially if they offer him to be a passing game coordinator as well and it helps he's knows Sean Payton
Broncos are elevating one of their own to QB coach

some playcalling experience too when he was the interim replacement OC for Matt Canada in 2023

Also coached James Conner too

Could be wrong but I saw when he was a interim oc for the Steelers after the fire Matt Canada he only help with game planning and etc while former Steelers quarterback coach Mike Sullivan called the plays.

But what about other coaches that interviewed at lower ranks and never got a fair shot? What about all those positional coaches on other teams that we don't know about that are potentially deserving, but may not get a shot?

I mean, how do we know there aren't enough qualified candidates across the board?
What’s to say these guys you’re referring to ARE qualified candidates?

The way the pieces are coming together feels like the is EDC masterminding a plan he's been cooking for while. There's a vision here that feels a lot like the way Roseman operates in Philly.

on a purely numbers basis
it suggests that there's a bottleneck further downstream

a lack of opportunity somewhere that is reducing the amount of talent available

maybe it's more of a CFB issue, but the NFL should be invested in trying to remove whatever the barrier to entry is that's restricting people from that coaching pathway
I mean the barrier is effectively black QBs. That's the barrier. There's really no bottlenecks at other coaching groupings.

I guess my question is... get a shot at what? The pathway to being an OC in this league pretty much goes through coaching and developing QBs at some level.
There's just not many restrictions at other coaching positions.

To be fair, he made a thousand yards RB out of Najee. Nothing to scoff about.
Not really that impressive at all. Every single team in this league has at least two RBs on their roster that we get 1,000 yards if they got 250+ carries a year. Those guys are widely available on day 3 of literally every NFL draft.

If the large majority of fans can see the coaches are not really that good but they keep the jobs, it's ALWAYS the case of other factors being in play.
Depends on the coach. People like to shit on Greg Roman, but his offenses are almost universally good everywhere he goes. They were good in SF, they were good in BUF, they were good in BAL and they were good in LA. Were they great? No, nor were they special. His brand of football doesn't suit all and it doesn't last, but his output is nearly impossible to argue against.

With others they may just suck. I really don't see that many actual "bad" coordinators who keep getting jobs over and over again. Maybe at the positional coach level, but nobody really cares about them.

The funny thing to me is you have a lot more of guys like Vic Fangio (especially on D) who are still considered high-end coordinators in this league, yet he's currently on his 7th different stint as a DC in this league. He pretty much universally has a 3-4 year shelf life everywhere he goes, and yet nobody is disappointed when he's hired to coach your team. Jim Schwartz is in a somewhat similar bucket.

I'll leave Raiders/Zona out of it for now since they haven't taken shape yet, but now that the dust is settled with most of the top positions filled I give my first rakings:

Love it:

Ravens, excellent multi layered vision
Titans, Saleh and a qb guru for Ward

Like it:
Bills, wasn't pretty but they landed on their feet w/Brady + Leonard

Yuck:

Steelers, They lost their heart and didn't gain a brain
Giants, Uninspiring staff and GM in limbo

WTF:
Browns, Being Browny will be doing this again next year

I'm not really sure most of these coaching hires are EDC's. It feels like Jesse Minter's plan.

I dunno, Doyle and Weaver were part of the process all along. We were the hottest on Doyle the entire cycle. I think it's collaborative but my gut says EDC is low key driving this. Hiring Ledford before having an OC is another clue.

I’m glad to be rid of Harbaugh but I think Giants have done well. Harbaugh will likely do well for a few years and then hit his shelf life.

I mostly agree with the rest.

I think it's a collaborative effort on both parts. I also remember reading that his dad has one hell of a rolodex. Not saying he's using it since his dad is still with the Chargers but I'm sure he knows who is on there.

A coaching dream team is being assembled by Minter! I can't tell you how excited this makes me. I can't wait for the draft and free agency.
