Ravens Ring of Honor
I like the move. Gives us some senior experience.I called this one. I like it. Brings some experience to the room and Doyle credited him, among others, for helping him develop

Kliff's track record is the reason no one has hired him to this point. Two NFL stops now where his offense came out of the gate humming. Then, the league adjusted about midway through the season. Kliff did not.I respect that. Nagy is just 47 years old but I understand the mind set of him being a old head but his scheme is likely not old or outdated. The best OC is Kliff Kingsbury but it's something going on for why teams not hiring him. I thought for sure Harbaugh would hire Kingsbury cause he somewhat the closes he would get to Monken to degrees when it comes or how they run their offense
I'd say its more to do with the fact that the people making these types of hiring decisions don't care enough about the "optics" of whether the public agrees with the decision or not to give credence to something they feel they don't need.Sounds like the issue isn't the rule but the powers that be operating in bad faith
This post will never get enough likes bro you got me spitting my Ghost all over my laptopI don't think the Rooney rule was designed to be virtue signalling. I think the older Rooney, who proposed it, the one who hired Tomlin, was not a racist and he genuinely thought that if they got minority coaches in front of owners, they would pick the best candidate, as he had. It's very naive to have faith in billionaires to be decent people.
What was virtue signalling was all the other owners who voted for the rule to be put in place with no intention of ever hiring a minority head coach.
Possibly the only way to get billionaires owners interested in different candidates would be if teams start appointing underage age minority boys and girls as OCs and QB coaches.
I can agree it’s bare bones and needs some work. It definitely has its place though. I put more of this on the Browns than anyone. Their front office can’t follow rules that have been in place for years. They should’ve had this done 3 weeks ago.I usually stay away from the Rooney Rule debate, but I think the biggest problem with the rule itself is that it doesn't prevent teams from hiring who they want to hire in the first place. The Browns are a good example right now - it's already been reported that they're going to hire Switzer as their OC, but they aren't compliant with the rule. So now they have to bring in 2 minority coaches to waste their time and interview for a position that is already filled. I have 0 problems with giving minority candidates greater opportunities, but the Rooney Rule itself is a mockery and almost more demeaning in certain situations than not being considered at all. Feels like the whole system needs a revamp.
I mean, I don't put it on the Browns because they didn't have a head coach 3 weeks ago. A minority interviewing for a role on a team that does not have a HC is even more of a sham than knowing it's going to someone else.I can agree it’s bare bones and needs some work. It definitely has its place though. I put more of this on the Browns than anyone. Their front office can’t follow rules that have been in place for years. They should’ve had this done 3 weeks ago.
Honestly every minority coach should decline and hold them hostage.
Jets interviewed Greg Roman for their Offensive Coordinator position lol...... if they hire him then he and Harbaugh can become neighbors.
Fair enough. I quoted you but it also wasn’t necessarily aimed at you, more the topic in general.
And I also don’t think it’s racist to make sure minorities are getting exposure to the front offices, don’t think there’s anything wrong with it at all.
I’m just wondering why there’s a good crowd here that seem bent out of shape about the lack of minority hires at HC and OC while simultaneously praising the hires of minter and Doyle for the ravens.
Never thought the day would come. Up until that AFCCG vs the chiefs I was one of the most rabid ravens fans on earth. Ain’t been the same since.
Well, sometimes too many voices becomes too many voices. It’s also chemistry and depends on who Kingsbury will work with here. I think if they didn’t go with him, there’s good reasonPersonally I would have liked to have seen some one like Kliff Kingsbury or Darren Bevell added as senior offensive assistant especially one with more upside as a play caller cause Joe Lombardi wasn't that good as a play caller when he had the opportunity to call plays on his own for other teams but he definitely can help Declan Doyle. Still think the ravens may need to add one or two coaches to the coaching staff just in case Doyle doesn't work out and you need someone to call plays in place of him
My pushback is they had the SAME ISSUE hiring for HC, and why it took so long for Todd Monken to be hired. Which pushed back the coordinator search.I mean, I don't put it on the Browns because they didn't have a head coach 3 weeks ago. A minority interviewing for a role on a team that does not have a HC is even more of a sham than knowing it's going to someone else.
I think the argument is that there is no fix to the structural problem because there isn't a structural problem.bemoaning the lack of options and the poor structural pipeline is different to begging for minority candidates to be hired just because
there's clearly a lack of exciting minority candidates who fit the archetype of what the NFL wants to hire
all im saying is that that structural problem should be fixed and that it's a shame that the league has so few minority HCs
doesn't mean i want e.g. Vance Joseph to be a HC just because he's a minority just so the number is higher
The miss didn't shock me 1 bit. Before the drive started I told my boy were losing if we don't get a TD or incredibly close. These mfs be putting me into a depression every season.
Only time I cheered and got legit fired up over the ravens since that game was when I thought Likely caught the game winner vs the chiefs week 1, and when he caught the TD vs the bills in the playoffs.
2 plays in the past 2 seasons. Everything else had me doing the Stephen A unimpressed meme. Even the Likely catch vs Pitt I was like so what we’re gonna miss the kick anyway.
I don't agree with that. They had interviews lined up. The problem is that they're the Browns and not many guys actually wanted that job so they removed themselves from consideration. My pushback is they had the SAME ISSUE hiring for HC, and why it took so long for Todd Monken to be hired. Which pushed back the coordinator search.
This is exactly why the Browns will never be a serious franchise. They already are a non-desirable landing spot, are in this position year after year so they know the rules, and blatantly refuse to grow and adjust. How many potential coaches and coordinators have the Browns missed out on because they can’t think about 30 minutes into their future?
It makes sense too since Minter faced that defense and Macdonald has had good success against the McVay/Shanahan branchesthey are indexing incredibly hard into the payton offence
clearly they think that offensive system is the answer to the current questions posed by defences around the league
