Coaching Carousel 2026

I gave Harbs a lot of shit but it’s commendable how he was able to build a successful scheme around Lamar with Roman and turn a guy that idiots were saying should be a WR/RB in the NFL into a 2x MVP at QB.
Lamar saved his job and he definitely embraced it. Not many coaches would go as far outside of the box to make an entire offense built around a guy with an extremely unique skillset like he did.

Given the type of personnel, Kubiak's offense with Lamar, Henry, Stanley, Lindenbaum, Rosengarten, Zay, and Walker seems pretty close to ideal.
If we add Ricard, wow.

For defense, I like Texas Tech's coordinator, Shiel Wood, and his classic Ravens scheme, but more aggressive

Twitter seems to be extending a bit on what I heard... players wanted a change on offense and Harbaugh wasn't feeling it, which soured the relationship with his players. Has kind of been a build up all season that all culminated into what happened today.

Dont watch a lot of college.. is shiel pretty good though?

I should clarify since that's coming from me...

I just don't think they gelled at this stage. No animosity or anything. Just a relationship that had run its course.
That's understandable but it does make me wonder what type of coach does gel with Lamar?I can understand the Greg Roman situation. I wouldn't be surprised if this was one of the reasons why he didn't get a contract extension done last year which basically promotes the narrative that Lamar wants to call the shots which is cool given he is the franchise quarterback. I believe one of the reasons why the ravens signed Jaire Alexander and Deandre Hopkins was because they were friends of Lamar along with being good players but also it likely would have help with contract extension negotiations

Sean McVay missed a game and in that game LaFleur called the plays. They put up 45 points

I want a offensive mind.

Give me Kubiak or LaFleur.

Those coaches’ sons are all tight. I trust them to build a good staff of all sons and nerds

I know that's the commonly accepted narrative but I think it's more like they drafted Lamar to run the Roman scheme with and then got surprised by just how good he was. For me, that explains why they kept him in, and limited by, that scheme for several years too long.

That would fit better with what we see of Harbaugh's character, he tends to value continuity over change.

Hmmmm I guess but I don't think a team draft a quarterback in the first round like the ravens did with Lamar and be surprised. Maybe they were surprised more how well the 2019 season went but Ideally I think this team had big faith and high hopes for Lamar being their franchise quarterback.

Just throwing this out there...I don't really think there's such a thing as "Roman scheme". I think he's proven his schemes are multi-faceted. I think he got the stigma of being the "mobile QB guy", and what he's doing in LAC is quite a bit different than what we saw with Lamar in BAL. And it's working.

I don't think the decision to draft Lamar had anything to do with who the OC was at the time. Especially when you consider that Roman was a) a TE coach for the previous two seasons in BAL and b) isn't really the kind of coordinator that you trade back into the first round to get a guy specifically for him.

I do like going with an offensive minded HC. Various reasons but I do think we can get a DC to run this ship. Orr not withstanding we’ve always had someone good enough there

Dream scenario..

HC: Klint Kubiak
DC: Jim Schwartz

I think Jim Schwartz is okay with just being a coordinator.
Yes but Jim would beee to leave Cleveland and I just don’t think that will happen. I think that Defense and Garrett specifically loves him. It would take a lot to get him to leave. Only way I see is if they hire a defensive fist HC and they want Jim gone

I mean it's really not up to him. Coordinators have been retained before after HC firings, but it's not super prevalent. The HC is almost always going to pick his own coordinators. Maybe that's Schwartz, but if CLE hires a DC as a HC anyway, there's really no purpose in keeping him.

I think its certainly most likely that he coaches elsewhere in 2026. As much as I like what he does as a DC, he's been a DC on three different teams in the last decade or so since he was fired as a HC.

Jim Schwartz is in consideration to be the next Browns HC and also is someone the owner publicly stated they want to retain. I doubt he is moved

One last thing I heard for the night…

Harbaugh approached that meeting as if he was safe. Doesn’t sound like Bisciotti appreciated that too much. Didn’t get the fight he was looking for.
