The Turnovers, the Offense and the Running Game

That under throw gonna get picked off by a decent cb

Maybe it is a bad throw, but if we see it again I'm going to be convinced they are doing a variation of the back shoulder. Defender got his back turned defending high and then at last second DHop drops down and nabs it.

If other guards drafted in these mid rounds are doing well and ours aren’t, then clearly we just need to stop drafting shitty G prospects, because going back to 2022 there was not a G prospect available for us in the first round. Jonah savaiinaea this year over starks, that’s it, and that’s yet to be seen if he’s even a good player.

Cam jurgens or Luke goedeke over ojabo in R2 would’ve been the only play over all these years.

lots of Gs we could have taken
the ravens are actively not looking to pick OGs that high it seems like - and tbh i would agree with that outlook - as you say there have been so many serviceable mid-to-late round IOL taken over the last decade that it's a perfectly reasonable way to search for guys - what i would say, is that with regards to the guys we're picking in the mid-rounds at OL, we're taking a lot of OTs that we then convert inside which always is going to add development time as they adjust, and when we're doing that, i think we're also over-emphasising things like arm length when picking our interior players - it's also why i think some of our later drafted (or even udfa) interior OL have been better than some of those we drafted earlier

although that being said, sounds like they were very interested in Tyler Booker in this class but he went way earlier than expected

i mean he looked phenomenal in preseason from week 2 onwards
clearly was being fast-tracked a little with how much they were putting on his plate and the coverage stuff looked great for a rookie 4th rounder

he's outplayed simpson enough that simpson basically mostly has been reduced to a backup role already

also cool that we're getting significant snaps from so many rookies already:
Starks, Green, Buchanan, Martin, Peebles are all playing starter or rotational snaps
Wester looks good as the PR
Loop looking decent so far as the kicker (less good on kickoffs)
And it’s not even like Simpson has been bad, because he’s actually played well on the field too. Just seems they (understandably) like the long term prospects of Buchanan more and for that, he seems to be getting the reps to keep building on that.

So around draft time, there was a debate over whether Bateman was worth trading for a 3rd. To me it seemed like an obvious yes because he is worth nowhere near that. I did not expect that to be a controversial take but having watched him play for 2 weeks, forget a 3rd but a 4th or a 5th to give him away would have been worth it. He has just been awful to start this year and has done nothing that the other WRs do not do better. His snaps just seem like a complete waste.

lol if we're not trading andrews for a 4th, we're not trading the guy we just extended and who is the clear number 3 receiving option in the offence for a 3rd rounder...

what a weird take - Bate's fine - lamar overthrew him on a deep shot, he got held on another long ball (that wasn't called) - yes he had a drop too

but he's always been volatile production-wise because so much of his role in the offence is vertical

to talk about trading him is a massive overreaction lol

What's kinda crazy is Mark Andrews and Justice Hill both look like total JAGs to start this year. Mark had a slow stretch last year but then turned it on. Justice was borderline elite at his role last year.

Idk. It's just crazy to me that Lamar usually finds a way to do something even when his cast is bad. Not saying this one is, but it has It's unique challenges. OL blows, Hill not being that change of pace guy, Andrews not being a serious focal point etc

Hill's first job in this offence as a 3rd down back is pass pro
Then it's as a receiver
Then it's as a change of pace back

part of why he didn't pop against the browns is because of game script
he had 22 snaps and only 6 touches (3 carries, 3 receptions)

Is it me or has Lamar added a moon ball to his repertoire? I don't remember him throwing like that, especially that often, before. Even his endzone fades never usually had that arc to them.

always helps when you've got a receiver you're confident can make you right in those kinds of situations
means you can put the ball up there without fear that a slightly underthrown ball is going to result in a INT

idk, i've not been particularly confident in the way simpson is reading the game and it's notable that the vast majority of simpson's snaps were in garbage time

it's not that simpson's played poorly, i just don't think he's played well and buchanan has shown far more promise

So the reject Jerry Jones beat us to picking up Clowney ,now Van Noy is out for multiple games.

Not good.
He didn't beat us to anything. We weren't interested unless it was going to be a PS with no promises type of thing, and Clowney wasn't going to do that.

You getting anything about them bringing up a practice squad guy or... going to give ojabo the reps...

Ojabo is next up and they like Rucker on the PS. They may add another guy to the PS if it’s going to be a few weeks but for now, in house.

If there's a position that can withstand it its edge. Might actually help one of the young guys step up.
KVN was not looking good anyway, he looked like he was done in week 1, looked a bit faster yesterday but still wasn’t looking great from what I was seeing

Just watched that deep shot to Hopkins again.

That was an insane throw considering he escaped to his left and threw it against his body.

Wow

Andrews makes sense because even at this stage he is still one of the 10 best TEs in the NFL. Bateman right now seems to be the number 3 WR, and if the other WRs look like they did Sunday then that spot might in jeopardy.

Lets play a fun game: how many teams would trade their number 3 WR for a 3rd? I would wager most and the ones that would not are basically only refusing because they are a rookie or 2nd year player who they want to grow into a top spot. Basically either the entire NFL drastically overvalues draft picks, possible, or Bateman is not even worth a 3rd round pick. What he is, is a very inconsistent player who has struggled for years now to be on the same page as a top 3 QB.

Dhop had outside leverage and a step on him. Unless they are hoping to get a flag while also knowing dhop has a chance to grab anything thats its in the air, i dnt think that ball is meant to go so far inside… it gives cb an easier chance to make a play
