2018 Secondary

Leta be real. Sherman better than all our cbs combined and lets not even compar our Fs,SS tandem with theirs... and as for the patriots, they most def have us beat
Sherman is very overrated and has benefitted from safety help more than any corner in the league. they have a great safety tandem but no 2nd corner or nickel and no depth, we have a third safety who is a starter in most teams who can also start at nickel, we have a nickel corner who was the best in the league before an injury riddled season, we have a better #2 than Seattle and a backup #2 with tremendous upside. Weddle in 2016 was on par with some of earl thomas' better seasons, tony Jefferson in 2016 and 2015 was as good as kam has ever been.

And the patriots have Malcolm butler and McCourt who are very good, but stephon Gilmore is as streaky as they come and Patrick
Chung is just a journeyman, he's moved all over and never really excelled anywhere but special teams, he's just average.

Your pessimism is deluding you far more than our fandom

Lmao. Kam,earl and sherman are Hall of famers. Butler> jimmy... mccourty>weddle... gilmore>carr/hump...

The actual numbers do not back you on McCourty being better than Weddle or on Gilmore either and if not for durability concerns you can easily argue Jimmy over Butler.

There is a difference between pessimism and realism. It would be crazy to call Flacco a top 5-7 QB, but it wouldn't be realism to say he is one of the worst that would be pessimism. Realism is saying while not top 5 he is one of the 15 or so QBs capable of winning a title.

Kam chancellor is a hall of famer guys
At this point in his career I wouldn't say that. He hasn't played long enough and if you look at some players that aren't in the HOF at this point that should be, I don't see him going. He needs to play longer and continue his dominant ways.

I'm not saying he doesn't have the talent, but I'm one to think that he hasn't played enough.

Of course I also don't think Joe Namath should be in the HOF or Lynn Swann. Namath had 4 or maybe 5 good seasons. The rest weren't much to write home about. Lynn Swann had a very short but productive career. He got in because he was a Steeler.

btw, this could be an entirely different thread...

Was he being serious, or was that sarcasm? I'm confused now :(.

Don't know
He wasn't being serious. He was essentially quoting a member who posted that several posts above his. I personally see Chancellor as an elite safety, but he would need a few more years of similar production to be considered for the hall.

Weddle is a terrific safety but I don't think I can put him on Earl Thomas level. He's the best safety in the league. Chancellor is a good player but not close to HoF--he's just a good player. Sherman is a good player but he's just not a HoF player and absolutely does benefit from playing with Earl Thomas. I'd definitely say Sherman is an upper level CB but he's not the top tier CB people call him. He's really high up there on the list though. Jimmy Smith would be ranked with Sherman if he could stay healthy and if he talked more smack like Sherman. Carr is just a good depth CB to go against a team's 2 or 3. Humphrey is an unknown and Tavon Young is really good as far as I'm concerned. He's better than any CB the Seahawks have outside Sherman.

If I had to rank or classify them, I'd say...

Earl Thomas > Weddle > McCourty >Jefferson > Chancellor > Chung

Sherman >= Smith >= Butler > Gillmore > Young > Carr > Patriots CB group > Seahawks CB group

So taking this on the sum, the Patriots have a better CB group, we have a better safety tandem, while we have a better CB group than Seattle, who has a better safety group than Patriots. I think we'd have a better CB group if Young was healthy but you have to go off facts.

Our secondary is unproven and one you compare on paper only, at this point.

We haven't seen Weddle and Jefferson together.
Jimmy can't stay on the field.
Young is gone for the year.
Humphrey..???
Carr is serviceable

Just saying but if Canady wins the Slot CB job (which I believe he will), none of our starting CB will be smaller than 6'... Big difference from last year with Will Davis and Shareece Wright...

Jimmy Smith when healthy a lot of the time has been rated higher and has had less help around him. It will be hard to compare the two now as both have the top two safety tandems in the league behind them. Sherman is a good corner, but I think you are definitely overlooking the Ravens corners.
