I didn’t realize it was that much...wow!
I will be honest that is a scary number to me just because I cant imagine him holding up over 16+ games if he runs it that much because he took some big hits.

I kind of agree with this. It may have opened things up and kept the Bengals from stacking the box but Lamar was getting the job done. It worked out in the end and we can now surprise a few teams when we catch them off guard with it at a later date.Imitating the Bills just feels like a bad idea to me.
What they were doing worked. The Bengals defense has just seemingly lost it for the past 5-6 games so just powering it down there throats was a good game plan and trust the defense to hold.
Oakland will probably be more of the same because there run Defense is awful but if Flacco cannot go by the time ATL is up then I would expect the game plan to open up.
Interesting fact: Lamar’s first start is against CIN and Joe’s first start was against CIN. Joe was 15 of 29 for 51.7 and 129 yards. I’ll let you check how it compares but that’s not badMost young QBs have a limited playbook to get them comfortable. I can understand why they didn’t air it out, but I would have liked to see it.
That is certainly a valid argument.I will be honest that is a scary number to me just because I cant imagine him holding up over 16+ games if he runs it that much because he took some big hits.

Honestly I don’t see how you can justify sitting him at this point even when joe is healthy. Lamar is the future, why sit him now?
This is an absolutely terrible assumption. If the run game is working so well why throw more than you have to? If pass pro is horrible why throw it more than you have to? If they don’t trust him why not play RG3? I could go on for days.
But I get it, you just need reasons for joe to come back.
Sorry to ruin your narrative but nope. I'm sure it feels good to assume that there is only one correct way to see things and other people have an ulterior motive but I don't have one. I simply subscribe to seeing is believing and until I see someone do a thing then I do not just assume they can especially when there is evidence to the contrary readily available.
Also why play Lamar if RG3 throws better? Did you see how athletic Lamar was? RG3 can't run like that. The gameplan was clearly to run on a bad run defense and the best player for that was lamar.
IMO the timing of Joe’s injury made it such that really there is only one outcome that would cause us to start Joe again and that’s if Jackson looked lost out there. If he played reasonably well and won then you have to ride him. If he played reasonably well and we lost the season would be basically over and it’s time to start transition. Only if he was atrocious would it make sense to start Flacco going forward. That wasn’t the case.Honestly I don’t see how you can justify sitting him at this point even when joe is healthy. Sounds like you had a great time brother! So today was the very first Ravens game I've ever been to. I gotta tell ya, the atmosphere was freakin' fantastic!
-Folks, when Lamar took the field for the first possession on offense, the crowd got hyped.
-A few of the fans I was sitting with agreed with why the fuck is Hurst and Andrews not getting more snaps. Fuck you coaches.
-Pass rush is nonexistent.
-When the jumbrotron showed #52 in the skybox with Biscotti, the crowd went NUTS!
-Where was Buck Allen?
-We were DREADING that final possession by the Bengals. Thank you Humphrey!
As for Lamar, he'll go through some growing pains, but I'm so glad I got to witness his first career start live. As for the conservative playbook, I remember the Seahawks doing something similar with Wilson. So perhaps, they're doing something like that with Lamar. I expect him to throw more against OAK next week, but patience is the key. Prior to his INT, the fan I was sitting next to was happy we had no turnovers. I told her not to jinx it. INT happened. She looked at me with much disappoint and goes "Is there like a Ravens jail that I need to go to?" I told her, "Nah. I got something BETTER than that. To the Pit of Misery you go. Dilly dilly!" You already know the deal...

so you're telling me you've seen Lamar try and fail to throw the deep ball? when?
It is one game, but you can’t takw anything away from this game. More responsibility will comeSome of his ducks in the preseason. Was it months ago? Yes. However it is the last thing I have seen and the only NFL tape of him that exists and considering that was his knock coming out of school I will wait to see evidence to the contrary before I say it is no longer his problem. I hate being the downer but I just feel that seeing is believing and until I see I will not believe.
There were reports that ticket prices for this game had spiked up to 164% of previous weeks. That tells me there was excitement among fans and attendance was way up. That is the intangible benefit of having an exciting player like Lamar Jackson. He is going to bring in fans from across the world with just his style of play and dynamism. But, we'll wait and see if he can protect himself and burn defenses when they stack the front.... but I'm happy for you and glad you can say forever you watched Lamar's first game.So today was the very first Ravens game I've ever been to. so ill break this down a little - and you'll know this isnt kool-aid because ive been saying this sort of stuff for a while:
- i dont know what the coaching staff is doing with his passing - he reads the field well (and read it well today), he makes good decisions and has fixed almost all of the mechanical issues he had, he still has some bad footwork at times but its vastly improved, and you can see his arm strength all over his tape - i dont know why they arent letting him open it up - and its frustrating - and you can tell the players believe lamar can throw too - crabtree and snead both had a go at both harbs and marty about the playcalling
- the other int-worthy throw you're talking about was not a bad decision - it was a slightly underthrown ball - but he was trying to put that ball in the only place where his guy could get it on a play where no one else was even remotely open
- lamar does not want to side arm the pass all the time - when i broke down the panthers series he had at the end of the game i noticed him side arm a pass too - he's not doing it because its lazy, hes doing it to get it through a lane that otherwise would not be achievable with the normal arm motion - flacco never had to do it because he's a man mountain but you'll see qbs all over the league do it to defeat pressure in their passing lane - the lewis helmet throw was just a fluke that it happened on that side arm delivery
- i agree he takes too many hits - he himself basically said it in the post-game presser - it would alleviate the hits he takes if he is allowed to unleash the ball in the passing game more
- the running more was not him being forced - it was the ravens repeatedly running the RPO with no passing option built into so many of the plays
you're welcome to your opinions etc. but i disagree with a lot of your concerns after 1 game - a lot of what we saw today is really consistent with what a lot of us have been saying for months about lamar - especially with regards to his throwing mechanics and decision making
You make valid points and that is why moving forward it is tricky for Harbaugh. If Joe gets healthy for Atlanta and Lamar has won both the games leading up to that, then what do you do? Play Flacco or Lamar? What if you start Flacco and end up losing the game? What then for Harbs? I don't want to be Harbs if and when Lamar beats the Raiders and Flacco is fully healthy.IMO the timing of Joe’s injury made it such that really there is only one outcome that would cause us to start Joe again and that’s if Jackson looked lost out there. If he played reasonably well and won then you have to ride him. If he played reasonably well and we lost the season would be basically over and it’s time to start transition. Thank you for that analysis. It's always nice to hear how other's see things. They were just concerns. I think the biggest concern is the staff's total lack of regard for his body in not opening up the playbook. Because of that, I don't think that gave him the opportunity to play the game I think he could've had. With all that being said, it led to what happened in today's game. Which in my opinion, just didn't look right. It didn't look like an sustainable NFL offense and a few quirky things by Lamar that I hope are resolved by better play calling.
I'm afraid it is something we're going to need to get used to. I'm in NC and I've watched Cam get drilled so many times on plays where many other QBs would have gotten flags. Running QBs just don't get sympathy. They are not the golden boys and they don't get the golden boy calls.they got away with a late hit on lamar twice at least
Especially their first game with limited time due to illness. We just need to see it open up gradually over the coming weeks. Most young QBs have a limited playbook to get them comfortable. I can understand why they didn’t air it out, but I would have liked to see it.
