The 2023 Offseason Thread

by by Duvernay
I was thinking that's an actual possibility. Not saying this will happen but could possibly see the initial 53 as

QB: Lamar, Snoop, Johnson
RB: JK, Justice, Gus, Keaton
FB: Ricard
TE: Andrews, Likely, Kolar
WR: OBJ, Bateman, Zay, Nelson, Tylan, Treadwell

Here you simply replace Duv with Mitchell and keep Treadwell or someone else in his backup WR stead.

DL: Pierce, Madabuike, Travis, Washington
OLB: Clowney, Oweh, Ojabo, Robinson, Moon/Hamm, Bowser
ILB: Smith, Queen, Harrison, Phillips, Simpson
DB: Hamilton, Williams, Stone, Marlon, Darby, Rock, Stephens, JAD, Ardarius, Pepe.

Then Pepe and Bowser go to IR. Urban and Seymour come to the 53

If Bowser is gonna be out 4+ weeks I think Mr. Moon or Mr. Hamm are going to be on this 53. Maybe an another handshake deal?
Moon is my sleeper but think he’s still PS bound. Hamm is hurt himself right now too.

So my spot would go to Worley, but could also keep Cleveland around and go heavy on OL for now. Don’t think Bowser sticking on NFI necessarily means another OLB needs to take his spot.

Not really sure what Treadwell offers us at this point. In a world where Duvernay is gone, that roster spot likely goes to another position as well.

Will also call out that you don't need any roster shenanigans for Bowser if they do shelve him for the 4 weeks. He just moves to reserve-NFI tomorrow. Not the same as the IR rules.

I could definitely see that, but I don't think this team wants to give Robinson snaps right now. And I'm not sure they want to give Ojabo a ton of snaps right now. Think we're gonna be seeing a ton of Oweh and Clowney with Ojabo in relief.

Could definitely risk it and go Worley though. My bet is it's Moon for now though.

Wait so he'd be like Vorhees and not even be on the initial 53 at all?

I think it's much more likely you'd see Harrison, Phillips, or less likely Simpson kick out and play some of the SLB role in the interim. And then you have a guy like Moon on the PS for callups if needed - don't think he's at really any risk of being claimed.

Correct. They're on the same list, as is Nick Moore. All will revert to reserve-NFI tomorrow (assuming Bowser doesn't get activated) and they would all remain eligible to return. Doubtful that either Moore or Vorhees would return, but seems they wanted to keep the possibility open.

Also of consequence, what veterans do you really want to guarantee their contracts for the season?

Josh Johnson, Melvin Gordon, Laquon Treadwell, Sam Mustipher, Angelo Blackson, Kevon Seymour, Arthur Maulet, Daryl Worley, DeAndre Houston-Carson are all bubble guys who could be impacted by salary reasons.

Again, assuming they're amenable, it makes more financial sense to stash a lot of these guys on the PS if you can. Obviously not all of them (and you do have vet limits) but some will go there just because they might be more short-term solutions/options.

Offence: 25

QB: Lamar, Huntley
RB: JK, Gus, Justice, Keaton Mitchell
TE: Andrews, Likely, Kolar, Ricard
WR: Odell, Bate, Zay, Agholor, Duv, Tylan
OL: Ronnie, Simpson, Linderbaum, Zeit, Moses, Mekari, Faalele, Sala, Cleveland

Defence: 25

DL: Madubuike, Washington, Pierce, Jones, *Urban*
EDGE: Oweh, Ojabo, Clowney, Bowser, Tavius
LB: Roquan, Queen, Malik, Phillips, Simpson
S: Marcus, Hamilton, Geno
CB: Marlon, RYS, Darby, Stephens, JAD, Seymour, Washington, *Pepe*

ST: 3

Same Urban for Pepe handshake that everyone else has.

Next guys on: JJ, Worley, Mustipher

Guys you hope make the PS: Vokolek, Moon, Hamm, Maulet, Welch, Kelly

JJ vs Huntley
Cleveland vs Mustipher
Mitchell vs an extra DB my 3 biggest questions still
I pretty much agree with this. I think Mustipher makes it over Cleveland, just because I don't know who they think the backup Center is at this point. Also seen rumblings that most people expect JCC to get cut by the Jets, so maybe he circles the wagons.

Kelly is totally polarizing. Seen plenty of beat writers suggest they won't cut him, but I honestly have no good reason for him to make this team at this point. If the DB room were entirely healthy, he'd have no shot.

I'm also 100% waiting for the "Melvin Gordon has made the team" and the shit storm that comes from that.

Gordon better not make this team

I think Mitchell makes the team over Duvernay. Don't think Treadwell makes the team.

Phillips doesn't need to go through waivers and I could see a handshake deal with him and I believe Urban will be added on Wednesday to the roster once we can put Pepe on IR.

Yeah I'm not understanding the Kelly stuff right now other than him being a draft pick. I expect us to go pretty deep at DB to cover for injuries to start but Kelly seemingly doesn't factor into that need. Keeping him likely creates sacrifices elsewhere, and you're already making some of those sacrifices to keep the other guys. I don't feel confident that he's off by any means, but I also don't feel confident that he's on just because of draft status. We've cut 5th round picks before.

Idk if we're tracking cuts here since it's more active or the signings/trades/cut thread since it's more appropriately named...

but DeAndre Houston-Carson is the first official cut

The DHC love I see on Twitter is wild. Dude was basically a camp body with an outside shot at the PS all along. We have virtually the same guy in Worley who is clearly in higher standing.

I liked what i saw from Sean Ryan during training camp and the preseason games with the big exception of the dropped td pass.

Does he make the practice squad? I like him as a developmental player. He seems to get open alot .
