The 2023 Offseason Thread

Way too many people panicking about preseason lol
I don’t think people are freaking out, but the preaseason seems to be confirming a lot of knowns coming into the off season. Mainly
1. The new look offense is a breath of fresh air and going to be alot of fun to watch
2. Young passer rushers continue to be very average at best. You expect more when drafting that high
3. Corner is dangerously thin and outside of Marlon, there is not alot of quality. EDC is going to sign additional players soon.

We are thin on defense at the moment. Hopefully Marlo and Bowser come back good to go very soon! If not, EDC may have to work some more magic. The key to this season is remaining healthy.

Are you referring to the Fiji loss?

haha nope
we were panicking way before the fiji loss

never thought id be worried about getting out of a pool with argentina and japan...

poor scotland though - probably win two of the other three pools but ireland and south africa in the pool is horrible for them haha

Boy do we have terrible backup corners.
we have hump, ya sin and Darby. not like you can have all stars all over the db. btw hamilton can and will play slot cornet a lot this year

it always looks worse in preseason in a vanilla scheme with a bunch that may not make the roster

Imo neither Sala or Kelly should make the 53. Cut them and resign to PS if they desire but they can walk as far as I'm cocerned. Draft status be damned.

Pretty much a sure thing we gonna be looking at other teams cuts and I'd be keeping a close eye on teams with CB talent that's gonna be hard to cut.

Trade candidates could be Duvernay and Queen imo. If we keep Mitchell I think Duvernay may be gone saving us 4 mil but if no trade he makes the team for sure. I'm sure EDC is gonna rue the day he didn't put the 5th yr on Queen since that mf is prob gonna be our best blitzer as the move guy but we could also get a 2nd rd pick. Eagles would be a good trade candidate here but I totally want to keep him. Vokolek could be kept just to protect and use as a trade chip. Solid player at Nebraska and I thought he was a good pickup when we signed him but man we got so many TE's expecially if you count Ricard.

Squirrelly about EDC's draft class this year besides Flowers since they ain't shown shit but he made up for it with Clowney and Darby signings. Right now at DB I'd go with Marvin, Rock, Darby ,JAD (who I've thought looked pretty good expecially with closing speed and you can see the talent) and Stephens at CB with Marcus, Ham-Ham, and Stone at safety and Worley and Washington as flippables. I look at that and I'm ok. The pass rush scares the fuck out of me on the edge and I really want to see Hamm (not to be confused with Ham-Ham or maybe he can be Ham-Ham :-1:) but anyways I'm counting on guys like Queen and some interior guys to pick up the slack. The Dline look fine and I would carry 5 and 100% sign Botts to PS.

On offense carry 8-9 oline if you want to keep Mustipher. He hasn't pissed me off yet and I would go Mekari, Cleveland and Faalele as the other depth players. Right now 4 TE's. 4 RB's and 6 WR's with Wallace getting the 6th spot and 3 QB's.

Might need some handshake deals if we have to put guys like Bowser on IR. Not sure how that works but behind the scenes shit goes on all the time.

Right now these are my opinions. Now lets go trample Houston and young buck CJ.

why would we be cutting Sala? dude's a 6th round pick with great traits who's already taken 1st team reps in his rookie offseason
he's not going anywhere

Kyu Kelly can definitely be dropped - has looked like nothing special and has been outperformed by basically everyone else on the depth chart at his position

It is far far far too soon to grade the draft class, but as of today, it looks like Flowers is the only one with a decent chance at contributing on off/def *this year*. Too bad since the roster lacks depth this year

My final guess pending no unknown injuries or anything like that. As always, this is a what I think they'll do, not what I'd do.

QB (2): Jackson, Huntley
RB (5): Dobbins, Edwards, Hill, Mitchell, Ricard (FB)
WR (6): Beckham, Flowers, Bateman, Agholor, Duvernay, Wallace
TE (3): Andrews, Likely, Kolar
OL (9): Stanley, Simpson, Linderbaum, Zeitler, Moses, Mekari, Faalele, Aumavae-Laulu, Mustipher
DL (4): Madubuike, Pierce, Washington, Jones, Urban*
OLB (5): Oweh, Ojabo, Clowney, Bowser, Robinson
ILB (5): Smith, Queen, Harrison, Phillips, Simpson
CB (8): Humphrey, Ya-Sin, Darby, Stephens, Washington, Seymour, Armour-Davis, Williams*
S (3): Williams, Hamilton, Stone
ST (3): Tucker, Stout, Ott

Just missed: QB Johnson, OL Cleveland, DL Blackson, OLB Moon, CB Maulet, CB Kelly, S Worley

Notably here, Pepe and Urban swap yet again. I have Worley off but think he'll go the PS elevation route and delay that 53 man decision for 3 weeks. In the event Bowser is not ready, I'd swap Worley on the 53 there.

Ideal young PS guys: WR Black, WR Ryan, TE Vokolek, OL Manning, DL Nichols, OLB Hamm, OLB Moon, ILB Ross, CB Kelly, S Lucien

I think you'll also look to keep a few of the vets from the just missed category if they're amenable to being on the PS.

If there is one surprise guy that I think could make the roster, it's Jeremiah Moon. He's been the only one seemingly doing the SLB role and doing it decently well. If Bowser isn't ready, I think they'd consider keeping him around. But I have him just off. Probably my guy 54-55 pending Worley.

I mean that makes sense when you think that there was no 2nd, and the 3rd was drafted to, maybe, take over for Queen next year. That leaves you a bunch of day 3 picks which in theory, on a talented roster, should just be depth pieces as rookies.
