The Defense, the Special Teams, and the Ugly: Week 9 Edition

I really think Perriman had a chance, ball hit him in his hands and if he came away with that we would have talked about how great of a throw that was. I think Perriman has a glaring problem with letting defenders make a play on the ball.

I honestly was not mad about the INT, we need to get the deep passing game involved badly and taking shots deep is always a risk because it's easy to turn it over there but our offense was going to hit a complete wall if we kept playing the short yardage game.

The 2nd INT was inexcusable and completely on Joe.
Perriman always has defenders making plays on throws to him. where’s the speed and separation?
He is always blanketed . With the speed he supposedly has, it doesn’t make any sense unless he is running
terrible routes .

What happened to the stable of edge guys we hoped to see in rotation?
Tim Williams? No use for this guy on third down?

I agree there were many drops and the oline isn’t good, but Flacco has to take some of the blame. That ball shouldn’t have been thrown in other way into triple coverage.
If Perriman high points that ball instead of waiting for it and makes the catch, or if he does similar on the earlier one in the end zone and we’re talking about the pinpoint accuracy of both passes. Players have to make plays.

perriman's route took him into thick coverage. he was not open. a guy like boldin would have elevated and taken advantage of the geometry in that equation. Not perriman. he's like torrey smith......."NEVER LEAVE YOUR FEET"
This is something that has followed him since College. He doesn't leave his feet often, nor does he make plays for the ball when it's in the air.

Yeah, he just seems to be the target on most INTs, that's just the way I see it.

So, this will be a nitpicky kinda comment, but PFF credited Jimmy Smith with the opening reception to Reshard Matthews. That was very clearly a zone coverage without seeing the play over, I'd guess Cover 2 based on where Jimmy sat), but Jimmy very clearly passes the receiver off to the inside and then very clear keeps his eyes inside on the quarterback and makes no attempt to follow the receiver.

Come on, PFF. Don't do my boy dirty and drop him to second in the NFL in passer rating.
Tweet that giy mcguiness from pff. He's a bmore fan, he'll get they played re looked at

Boldin would have made it .

It was triple coverage because we had 8 players blocking and both wrs ran deep routes. It was the only option

The interception should have been a reception. A decent receiver with a nose for the catch goes up and gets that ball rather than waiting on it.

When it's been a problem for this long, you kind of have to look at Pees and hold him accountable.
I'd be more empathetic to the narrative if we weren't seeing so many points off of turnovers or short field position (the Koch shank), or if the offense did something at all for the first 55 minutes of the game.

He should have caught the earlier one in the end zone as well. It was a perfect throw that hit Perriman right in the hands. Game could have played out much differently.

even more so...a good receiver would realize he's run smack into thick coverage and his only viable play would be to elevate. perriman is not aware enough to do that

we need kubiak back in the worst way

Ball hit him in the hand for a split second and I'm not sure we can get mad at him for "allowing" Ryan to make a play on the ball. Perriman is tracking the high arcing ball and Ryan peels off his man and just spear heads the ball into the air.

Amazing throw from Flacco, but really unlucky bounce.

Sad thing about all this is that Joe has had time in the pocket. He's not been under that much pressure.

I missed that. Joe's second pick was abysmal and entirely on him however.

It is when it essentially ends the game. Yes. It is not a new issue either, it is not a one time deal. If that were the case, then you'd be correct. This has been ongoing for years.

No different than the double standard of giving the defense a pass for one injury and railing on the offense when essentially all the starters are injured.
I'm not railing the offense and I'm usually the first to bring up their injuries when someone like you brings up this idea that the offense is neglected.

See my reply to PurpleCity on when I'd be more empathetic toward the defense collapse narrative.

No question, poor decision. Should have thrown it into the stands instead trying to make that play. But as was mentioned earlier that pick ended up being inconsequential as Tenn went 3 and out, no points.

Except for what might have been had the drive continued.
