2018 Free Agency

Tyrod is by default the best QB the new age browns have ever had. He alone is going to win them more games... It also ensures that they can take the draft's two best players, Barkley and Fitzpatrick...

The Browns went from being legendarily bad to just meh. Congrats.

They're the Browns.... Something tells me they somehow screw this up. They've been in this position every year for the past 8 years... Every... fucking...year. And they still screw it up. Dorsey should lead to better drafting, but Haslam is a fucking cancer. Something tells me he undermines this somehow in the long run

It would still be a mistake in my view not to take one of the top 4 qbs... they have these pick-your-poison type qbs sitting there and that might not happen again for another 5 years or so who knows... you’ve got to take the qb - you have to do everything you can to find a franchise qb

Reports are that the browns aren’t giving him a long term deal - that both he and they are happy to let him play on the tag
Well then that's why he didn't end up here. I think that explains everything. He said he wasn't going to play on the tag but I guess he changed his mind once he saw that no one is going to give him a deal that he hoped for.

I completely agree with you. Rosen, Darnold, Mayfield all scare me on this Browns team in the future... Truth be told if they don't take one of those guys...... And one will be avaliable..... Then they're idiots. I like Tyrod and all, he's better than several give him credit for, but all three of those guys have higher ceilings

When players are on, they're on, I think Marvin Jones is a really good player but his best year prior to his deal was 712 yards and 10 TDs, not to mention he had durability concerns. I don't see how Landry shouldn't easily exceeds what he makes.
To be fair to Jones, that 2013 season for Jones was objectively stellar. It doesn't seem like it on paper, but they only played him 555 snaps that year out of 1236, so the 700+ yards and 10 scores in context were eye-popping. He also ransacked San Diego in the post season for 130 yards on 8 catches. To your point, durability has most certainly been an issue for him.

Also.. The Packers are idiots too. They bitch and moan about Hundley being bad(yes he horribly misused Jordy Nelson, well aware) but they just got themselves an even worse version of Hundley in Kizer. Who sucks.

That was a great season no doubt, and I wanted him badly here when he was a FA, but I just don't see how Landry shouldn't further exceed what he makes considering the overall picture of things. He had a great year but with everything in perspective I don't think his production has matched Landry's nor do I think he had the other factors that could make the argument that they've earned equal compensation.

Because you don’t just pay players on what they’ve done in the league but what you expect them to do

Your claim is false since in 2016 we actually have adjusted our offseason strategy to include bigger name FAs (Weddle, Jefferson). We've been far more active in the past two seasons and have gotten better each one. You're literally complaining for the sake of complaining. Not saying to be optimistic, we do something wrong and we can say hello to a top 5 pick.. But we haven't been doing the same thing over and over again. That's an emotionally clouded claim. We can't afford to have those and thank god we don't.

Literally, this receiving corps is upgraded from horseshit to average and we add an improvement or two on the oline and we can say hello to the playoffs again with how pathetic the AFC is

If sneaking into the playoffs with a patch work team of older cheap cap cuts to patch holes for a season is the goal. And destroy the cap with older vet contracts Then awesome. Selling out to make the playoffs?? Don’t forget tougher schedule. And browns are a better team which means no longer a given 2 wins. I would prefer miss playoffs and have the team move in the right direction. As in cut the aged vets. And sign young players that will be in their prime for next 5 yrs

When did he say that?
I thought he just said he wasn’t gonna play on the tag in Miami...

But yeah that’s why I don’t really get all the consternation - even if we offered more in draft capital to make the trade happen we were only gonna confirm that trade with a long term deal in place...

I mean it’s not the worst move - they’re gonna struggle to reach the minimum cap spend and Landry gets to make more money than he would have and get another crack at free agency next offseason
Oh. Well aware of that. But Landry is just a genius ala Revis. He should honestly fuck off to San Francisco after this season to play with a real QB

He did an entire short video on it and explained why he isn't going to play on the tag. Him signing the tag was the only way that would facilitate a trade.

I think the problem was that we never imagined that Cleveland would actually take the gamble and trade for a guy on a 1YR deal. I didn't anticipate that. I just had two issues, us picking higher than Cleveland or Chicago, or the 2nd issue which was getting a deal done. Outside of that I felt confident since I didn't think giving up draft picks was an issue, the only problem was Miami wanting to pick higher.

Man this turned into a shit show. Did we really think we were gonna get Landry? Allen Robinson is probably gonna end up making way less at least for this one season, and is a far better player, and even he is a pipe dream. We don't have the funds for it, we need to cut Howard and find a RT(hopefully Lewis), cut Carr and Webb and hope like hell we can stay healthy with our deep secondary, cut maclin, and if we overpay anyone it should be Jensen, offer a backloaded deal to Robinson where the bulk of the cap hit is in year 3(when we likely move on from joe and can afford the hit for a year), if that doesn't work we go for Richardson and then focus on wr, ol, and TE in the draft, preferably double dipping at wr.

There is the factor of the X being arguably more valuable than the Y. Especially with Jones being a top-tier deep threat, evidenced by the fact that he was tied for 1st in catches of over 20 yards this season with Antonio Brown, Julio Jones, Brandin Cooks and DeAndre Hopkins. That upside was very much on display in 2013. I would argue that simply putting numbers in a vacuum can sometimes be a shallow method when comparing a player who plays almost exclusively on the outside against one who plays almost exclusively in the slot. I've been a fan of Landry since his college days, minus the shameful hit on Aaron Williams. He's almost certainly going to be paid higher than Jones. That's partly due to rising salary cap number, partly due to the production and lack of durability concerns. That being said, Jones was signed on to be a quality starting boundary WR, and his salary was more indicative of his talent and upside than production. I would expect a larger figure in comparison, but it's tough for me to subscribe to the notion that Landry should be paid leagues above Jones. Keenan Allen is making $11 million per season despite as a terrific outside and slot WR. That would be around my ceiling for Landry's value.

Landry is a very good player, but I certainly wasn’t on the bandwagon of signing a player and paying him number 1 receiver money when he will be playing mainly from the slot.

and we thought the Browns were a pain in our ass before?!?!?!!?

It would not be too much of a stretch to say Cleveland contends for the division this season.

Last place will be a battle between us and Cincy.

Not being a Debbie Downer, but Cleveland seems to be going all in.

Anything is an upgrade over Hundley. That guy is a bum.
