2018 Free Agency

Golden Tate isn’t as good as Landry but on his day Marvin Jones looks like the best receiver in the league - that’s how good he is when he’s on - I’ve never seen anything close to that level from Landry
Have been a fan of Jones since his Cincinnati days. I personally feel like he's one of the better jump-ball WRs in the league, if not best. Had him firmly on my sleeper list going into this season.

Browns sent a 4th this year and 6th next year according to reports for Landry.
From Miami's perspective, if they truly weren't comfortable paying Landry, the compensation they received is sensible. The best a team can receive is a compensatory 3rd, which is at the very bottom of the round. Now they're able to net a 4th and 6th, which could very well be in the early range should Cleveland continue their struggles, meaning that the theoretical compensatory 3rd might've been a mere few spots from their new 4th, and the latter comes with a potentially early 6th. And they no longer have to be cognizant of how many players they lose and gain via FA to ensure that they receive the comp.

In my opinion his routes are pretty sharp and fluid to. And tracks the ball from anywhere. A plater I liked last year. Similar to how I like Brice Butler this free agency as a deep play

I'll need to check out Butler. Have only seen small glimpses of him. Agreed on the rest.

I just don't understand how Landry wasn't worth at least 3rd round pick for us.
We can't draft receivers to save our lives, there is plenty evidence of that.
Landry is just entering his prime, has numbers to show for his entire rookie deal, doesn't miss any games and never drops a bloody football.
Seriously, what the fuck our FO wants and how much are they prepared to pay for it????

Losing out on a player with a clearly limited role for the amount that the Browns paid. I can live with that. As much as I would've enjoyed seeing Landry in a Ravens jersey... If you thought he was actually a realistic option you were kidding yourself. For the amount they're paying him that's a ridiculous overpay. That doesn't bug me. Tyrod is the best QB by default this Browns team has ever had(not the early cleveland browns. We are that team. The new age shitty Browns). I've shit on Tyrod in the past because of certain irrational members(and thank fuck they didn't make it over here) but please don't ruin him Cleveland. THAT scares me. They now have someone competent there. They get Saquon and boom.

Things are actually looking up for once for the Browns....

I don’t like the comp pick thing. It should be scrapped. It’s not like baseball when you are a small market team losing a free agent to a big market team. In football it means you prefer to pay somebody else and let that player walk. If you wanna do comp picks in football then do so for stuff like high paid players getting injured all season and or into next year. And career threatening injuries. And huge contract players getting year long suspensions and banned. All while these big contracts counting against the cap. Then you could give comp picks for pro bowl players retiring and like I mentioned career threatening injuries. Like we shoulda got a round3 comp for the Ray Rice debacle for sure!!

Dennis Pitta averaged 8.5 yds. per catch in 2016, while pretty much falling down after every catch. Landry averaged 8.8 yards per catch last year. The guy is sure handed, no doubt. But he ain’t all that.
If we're going to pay that much money for anyone it damn well better be Norwell or Robinson, who'd be an elite WR here.
Landry is a hell of a football player. But his price tag was more than just the absurd amount the browns are paying him.... but also the draft capital. No thank you.

We have other things to focus on

I'm just going to chalk it up and say we are going to have the same average WR corps again this year. We aren't getting Robinson, he's going to be too much than ozzie seems to want to pay, we haven't made any cap maneuvers to free up money for Robinson that I know of, and we are going to be competing with teams with bigger cap room. We are going to be relying on a rookie again this season, and that's even if we can actually draft one that is actually good this time, if we draft one at all (and by that I mean not some scrub in the 6th/7th round). Did I want Landry? Yes and no, call me pessimistic, but I just don't see what their plan is, especially with our cap situation, and them seeming to be sitting on their hands about it.

The browns might actually be better than us this coming season, think on that...we may be in the bottom of the bin this year.

Marty's gone with Harbaugh after this season.
Great can I have next week's lottery numbers too? Could use some money after getting picked.
lol. You really should try to curb your optimism.
I think without the right moves we could be a top 5 pick. Since the tampering period hasn't even begun yet. No thanks.

And paying Landry 16 mil would be asinine beyond human belief for us. Not only is he not worth it, but there are more pressing things. If you think only one WR is going to save us... Sorry to burst your bubble. The best plan of action is to fix the line in FA, get a reciever, and then go Ham in the draft

Sure, no doubt. If they blow it and don’t get quality 2 or 3 WRs, or even if they do and have more bad fortune with injuries anything is possible. Seems the more likely scenario though is they pick up at least 2 or 3 decent guys via FA and the draft, the squad doesn’t catch the injury plague, ergo the Ravens are competitive again.
