Quarterback thread

We should trade back to the highest bidder... and you can bet there’ll be tons of bidders

That's not gonna happen though. Wishful thinking. If a couple teams fall in love those teams will be trading up well b4 pick 16. I think you have to take him. If Flacco continues to lay eggs. You can't count on a QB rich draft when it's time to draft a QB. And management isn't savvy nor bold enough to trade up for a QB. It could be a while b4 a QB rich draft. How many drafts during the Billick era didn't produce a single franchise QB?? If 2 franchise QBs hit the NFL in a 3 year span. You can believe the ravens aren't one of the lucky sweepstakes winners.

its not wishful thinking to assume we would trade back if he gets to 16 - its more wishful thinking to assume he makes it to the 16th pick anyway

that doesnt make sense - you just asked me what we do if he falls to 16 - when i answered that we trade back you suddenly said they would have traded ahead of us anyway - so which is it?

if mayfield makes it to 16 ill be gutted if we dont trade back to a qb needy team

if mayfield is bpa and no one offers us a draft haul to come up and get him then id be fine with taking him

if im brutally honest though i really want to see 5 qbs go in the 1st round and i think its entirely possible

You guys think mason Rudolph will be there in the middle of the 2nd?

i personally wouldnt want him in the middle of the 2nd - for me from what ive seen he's not worthy of a 2nd round pick but he may well end up getting drafted there - my gut says he should be available there and it would be a mistake for a team to take him earlier than that but what do i know lol?

I have not watched him much at all but Nobody is taking him in early rounds. He shouldn't go b4 round3.

If Mayfield is there at 10 I would be all for trading the round2 pick to move up to get him. Then if Flacco isn't playing better next year his replacement is on the roster. A competitive athletic instinctful playmaking QB.

i agree with you about rudolph in the sense that he shouldnt go before round 3 but i think a team will gamble on him too early

and i like mayfield but im not sure we should absolutely throw countless picks at him - if he's there at 16 then you have to think about it but im not sure giving away a 2nd round pick for a player who wont play the 1st year is necessarily the position the ravens are in at the moment

as much as i like mayfield im not sure he's worth a top 10 pick so im definitely not comfortable giving up a first and 2nd round pick to get him

I think the focus this year will be on building around Flacco if he has a bad year then I think we start thinking of the next QB next year he’s only 30 if he plays like he did the second half of the season for the next 4-5 years we’d be crazy to let him walk just my opinion

i agree, especially as next offseason is when getting rid of flacco becomes feasible anyway - there's no harm in building around him this offseason and if it doesnt work out we can then attack the qb position

My thoughts exactly. Fix this line and get a real recieving corps this offseason. It's a win-win. If Flacco can continue his better play from the second half of the season: we're a super bowl contender. If Flacco stinks up the joint and we suck(a real possibility given our schedule), cut our losses and go draft a QB in 2019 or 2020.

Besides... Outside of Rosen there isn't a QB in this draft I'd trust to be a day 1 starter. And developing QBs by sitting them behind vets is more miss than hit... Sure Garropolo looks good, and as does Aaron Rodgers, but Denver has 3 QBs that all suck. One who sat behind Peyton Manning, the best QB of the previous decade. Arizona with Matt Leinert and Kurt Warner, the Giants are going to have to draft a QB, so on and so forth.

I like guys like Baker Mayfield, but he's gonna have a brutal adjustment period. When an NFL LB knocks him on his ass for the first time it's not gonna be easy. As for heart and passion.. Tim Tebow had heart and Passion too. Josh Allen is gonna get his ass handed to him on a football field the first few go arounds. Darnold is likely to be drafted by the Browns, so his career is probably fucked.

If someone like Stidham is avaliable in the mid rounds: pull the trigger.. Not much of a loss there. But I wouldn't draft a QB early. Having raw tools is one thing.. But the NFL is a completely different ball game than college, especially for a QB

Agreed, I'm not a fan of his, his ball doesn't have the velocity you want, his deep ball is high arcing with a ton of hangtime and in the NFL that=picks, and he stares down receivers

He also just looks off - I can’t put my finger on it yet but when I watch him there’s something in his throwing motion/footwork/reads that makes me feel a little uneasy

I'm pretty sure Flacco is going to be 33 pretty soon, which is pretty old in QB years.

It's not that old. There's still several older QBs starting in the league, and Ryan who's about the same age.
I think it's old for Flacco, specifically. He has limited mobility, terrible mechanics and can only rely on a strong arm so much before it loses its strength.

That would have been true to say 8 weeks ago but while his decision-making is still inconsistent his mechanics and footwork in the pocket looks better than it has since before 2015

Charlie Campbell posted on Twitter that both Sam Darnold and Lamar Jackson may return to school for another year.
