Quarterback thread

Yes. Late round 2018 I think, unless one of the talented ones drops to late day 2 - early day 3.

i mean ryan mallet isnt gonna be tolerable as a backup qb anymore and is also a free agent - id be ok with a falling qb in day 2 and 100% behind taking a mid-round guy (or later) who we believe could have the tools to succeed and groom them behind joe to at least be the backup for cheap for 4 years and if they play well enough they either push joe or we trade them away for a pick - but i dont wanna see ryan mallet play snaps for the ravens at all be that preseason or regular season tbh

We're not likely to spend money on a guy that could actually do something in case Flacco keeps diving for 1st down. Anybody else would be as bad as Mallett, including mid/late round pick, so it doesn't matter who the guy is.

Plus, did everybody forget we have Josh Woodrum?

i dont get this idea though? look at 2 of the best teams in the league right now - vikings and eagles - would have been sunk if they had ryan mallet as a backup qb but they invested in a backup qb and im not saying it has to be monetary investment it could just be a draft pick - but if there's a qb we like in the draft available at an appropriate spot i say 100% we take them (and id like us to pick a qb up somewhere)

otherwise we'll always be stuck at qb because we arent changing and adapting - ryan mallett isnt good enough so we should find someone better... isnt that logical?

and i assume you're joking about woodrum right?

I am joking about Woodrum.
For guys like Bradford / Foles / Keenum (who'd have thought?) / McCarron / Tyrod / Garoppolo we just don't have any cap space.
Project QB would be waste of an early pick because we desperately need to find playmakers and by early I mean first 3 rounds. Of course if guys like Allen, Stidham... are there, I'd like to pick them up but I just don't think they will be.

if a qb i like falls a bit id be happy for us to pick one up on day 2 - we are gonna have 4 picks in the first 3 rounds (and we've not exactly done much with day 2 picks recently anyway lol) - but as i say i dont see how we dont take a mid-round guy at least if there's one that we like near our pick especially on day 3 - and it may be that the mid rounder isnt ready to be the backup yet and we may have to carry 3 qbs for a year but im ok with that possibility as long as they have earned their way into the 53 - a backup qb is the most underrated position in the nfl and a home grown guy is invaluable for multiple reasons

as you say there may well not be a guy we like around when we pick on day 2 because qbs get reached on but id be fine with using a day 3 pick on a qb and grooming them

I do believe Bowser and TWill pan out. Next year is a very important year for them. Wormley has promise also with the limited reps he has done well.

I hope he'll get his shot to play more with Davis out at least this week. He's promising as a pass rusher

was more referring to the collective contributions of correa, kaufusi, maxx, davis, (jernigan was good), brooks, gillmore, brown, (williams is obviously a good pick)

yeah i hope davis is to wormley what bwill was to henry - their absences hopefully lead to the ascendency of young players into the rotation and proving their worthiness

Yeah, although I think Davis is on the verge of becoming a very good player.

Nice... Baker Mayfield has accepted his invite to the senior bowl - good move i think for him - certainly scouts will like it

I'm surprised tbh. The hype on this senior bowl is huge this year.

Mayfield, Rudolph and Falk all at the senior bowl will be really interesting

it's a really nice looking offensive skill roster overall actually:
rb: royce freeman, akrum wadley and rashaad penny
wr: marcell ateman, allen lazard, anthony miller, james washington and braxton berrios
te: troy fumagalli, mike gesicki, dallas goedert and ian thomas

Not going to lie, I'm as excited for this roster as I've ever been.

i do not see the front office drafting a qb next year, but im sure they will bring in some free agents to battle mallett if he is kept. 2019 seems like the year to draft a qb because it will give us more controllable years to see what he has once flaccos contract is up. what flacco needs is better players around him as far as receivers and te's. collins looks like a keeper as a change of pace guy but we need the all around back that can run between the tackles for the tough yards. let allen and dixon battle it out for the 3 spot.
