The WR Thread

I like Burnett but he has so many frustrating drops...
Then count me out. Speed, route running, timing, strength and size to fight off defenders... none of it matters if you drop the ball when it hits you in the hands.

That was the one caveat we had when we selected Perriman. His drops in NCAA were attributed to a lack of focus on the easy catches. Very fixable. Maybe ... but maybe not.

This. And if it's a gut feeling thing, I really don't get it, because he passes the eye test with flying carpets. He's great for a film junkie as you can see his great work at the line and his elite breaks and releases, the foot and handwork, the head and shoulder fakes, the natural understanding of leverage, it's all there, and for those less inclined to spot these traits he's got explosive speed and acceleration, quickness and agility nothing short of elite, best hands in the draft, and a great ability to adjust to a poorly thrown ball and a pretty solid ability to win contested catches.

There is literally not one area he falls short in, he's at least "good enough for the NFL" in every single category and "unquestionably elite" in many others.
And therefore... I'm trying not to get too excited about Ridley.

As @allblackraven said to me in a previous post, we'll take him in a heartbeat if he "inexplicably" drops to us. The more I think about it, the more I see projections, the less likely it seems he'll be available to us. As we've seen with OBJ, Evans, Davis and Williams in recent years, these guys go way earlier than their projections.

Most projections I see, he is either taken before us or by us ... that puts his average projection at around 12. Based on recent drafts, that would indicate he'll probably be a top 10 pick. If he is deemed a clear best WR in class, he will go to either the Bears at 8 or SF at 9. I can really see one of these teams trying to pair him up with their bright, shinny new QB and have a connection for the next several years.

Yeah I don’t see the Bears letting Ridley get by us. That is unless we do the unthinkable and trade up with them. The Bears may want some picks more than a wr. I doubt we do this because it would cost us our 2nd round pick.

Perriman's issues run very much deeper than just his hands. His relation with Joe is awful, his confidence is at rock bottom, his ability to separate isn't good enough...

Burnett offers a great ability to get open and that surely is something we value.

Right, but I would be leery of anyone whose weakness is having bad hands and having issues with drops.

Perriman has been a complete bust but tell me... with what was available, and with looking at what the available players weee expected to become, can you really say it was a bad pick at the time? Hindsight and all, but we actually thought we had a bright future at the time, one thing we needed was a high upside big play receiver, and Perriman fit that mold better than any wr we ever had. Without hindsight it wasn't really a bad pick, it's easy to look back now and call it a bad pick, but at the time you couldn't really be mad at their rationale.

It's just too bad it failed so miserably because he has absurd talent he just doesn't have it between the ears

Agree, Byron Jones although better than Perriman, hasn’t done that well either.

He sucked!! Can u say with a straight face he played to his 40??

I didn't freak out when we selected him, but did feel a little bit like ... OK, let's see what happens, cause there are concerns.

The problem is there are generally no flawless prospects playing skill positions that are available in the 20s ... not likely even at 16 where we'll select. Hence the issues with perpetual mediocrity. And yet again, it is highly unlikely that one will be available to us in this draft. Which leaves us to take a flawless prospect at a non-skill position, reach or trade back.

At the time I wanted a trade back and in hindsight I think that would have been the best move too

If we could have traded back, then I would have preferred this also, but you need a partner.

I don’t think we were lacking for one - didn’t they say he was the last guy they had graded as a first rounder and that if he hadn’t been there they would have traded out of the spot - you have to assume they had someone lined up as a partner

Oh yeah, I do recall that statement. I always knew Perriman was raw, but had potential. Of course not having anything between the ears, kind of limits that potential

Welcome back Italian Raven. Glad to have you on board

Thanks man :) I´m tremendously happy to be back.
I was with the first ones joining the forum, even before BR shut down, just that a lot of things happened in the meanwhile here in Germany and I´ve been so busy I actually forgot we did migrate :D And it´s beautiful. I´m living far from my family but this thing you brought back is something big. It´s going to be like a second home and I´m looking forward to log in daily; at very least once as I´m on my train to work. Such a relief to see everything you guys planned worked out. Really, congrats

oh man, when we got Perriman I was livid. It´s not like I lose faith in our FO, because if there´s one thing I have no doubt on is that those people know much more about football than me. So, after 5-10 mins of swears I´m like "ok, what exactly do they see that I can´t" and go back to the tapes. Even then, just like it happened with many other recent picks, doubts persist (Correa: never got the hype. Even Kiper and Mayock were over exaggerating about his skills as a pass rusher and cover guy while tapes were disappointing imo. Bowser ain´t much different. I just don´t get the pick. Wormley, even a worse one with my boy Lawson and Timmy on.)
But man, Breshad is my all time least fav pic.
Do we have a section to talk about our nailed and bad prospects predictions? I real feel like I have to confess.

Hopefully you can participate in the Forum mock draft. @Italian Raven

Pound the Table thread. It’s under 2018 NFL Draft section. There is also a thread for 2017 in that section

I like the Bowser pick, but feel he should be used in a Jamie Collins role and not strictly as an edge. When he was on the field he did well and he has potential. Of course he didn’t hit the field as much due to Judon having a pretty good yr.

One of our trade downs in 2016 allowed us to get the pick used on Judon.

What's that got to do with anything? Did you even fucking read my post?

For the record I wanted Malcom brown who is the only of the 3 guys there who has had a respectable career so far. So don't start, all I'm saying is the rationale was easy to understand.
