The WR Thread

One midround guy I'd love here is Steve Ishmael from Syracuse. Big, strong, good body control, and runs nice routes. He's definitely not going to be the top WR for any NFL team, but he can easily become a security blanket type of WR. The possession guy you know you can rely on to hold onto that third and long pass, and fight for extra yards. He can be the Mr. Reliable for our offense while a WR picked earlier can be the big play guy.

Anyone know about this guy Daurice Fountain? I haven't been able to find a lot on him. Is the sudden hype well deserved?
I know he scored a lot last season and saw couple/three plays where he looked good on a high ball. Seemed pretty fast but I have no idea how to grade skill guys from divisions like that. Sounds like he's doing good in East/West practices.

Its why I won’t even look at RSR. The boards over there are just people wallowing in their discontent. Fuck that shit.

Honestly thank you. Feels good to not be alone on this.
the posters at the top are of a higher quality but there is a lot more crap on that board than br.com or here that it actually makes it hard to see the good posters. At this stage for me, i know all the names so i just skip over half the posts that i know aren't worth my while

Do you have anything on Jeff Badet? He seems to be the one player we've talked to at the Shrine game.

Of course, you can bet 1/2 the national mocks are going to have us picking Ridley. Need a WR, love to draft Bama players. Check and check.

If the predictable comes to pass, will you guy be upset? Do you think there is better talent to take in round 1 and given depth of the WR position will allow us to get a playmaker in the 2nd round?

Considering the Ravens situation, I don't think we could find a better value then Ridley at #16 if, for some unexplainable reason, he is there.

Yeah - it feels like WR is second only to the QB where writers and other evaluators claim only a given number of players who are top 10 worthy, only to see them fly off the board in reality.

A good part of why you will still see many mock this selection is because they just think it is a good fit.

On the other hand, I still struggle figuring out what would be the best value for us in more likely case of Ridley and all the other consensus best prospects going early. Do we go BPA in a position of need, BPA regardless or move back and cross fingers (again) someone whom we like will be there? At the moment I'm leaning toward the BPA in a position of need - not very impressed with this entire class.

Of course, given that the draft is so late and FA happens in advance, we could potentially set ourselves up for what we'll do. An example is if we cut someone like Howard in concert with some other more obvious cuts and land an FA WR. Then we'll be clearly in the position where we're going to create new positions of need (O line) and free ourselves from the sense that we need to take WR as our 1st selection.

If we generally stand pat (that is, pick up some players in FA, but no one that is really an impact player) when you say BPA in position of need, is WR/TE that position? Or are there others you think qualify?

Positions of our greatest need for me are WR, interior pass rush / 5T and ILB
I seriously doubt we'll be able to pick up the answer at WR in free agency, our cap situation is worse than bleak.

I think the Ravens will be able to backload a contract. The trade off of not hitting on draft picks gives them the opportunity to make up for talent in FA.

I’d add corner to that as well. Not sure what the Ravens are going to get from Jimmy Smith next season. Tavon Young will lock down that slot position next season, but outside cornerback other than Humphrey is bleak

I think Jaleel Scott has some number 1 WR in him. He’s a dynamic receiver 6-6 215 and a major sleeper at this point. What round do you think he goes in.

I don't think Ridley is going to be elite, but he'll be more along the lines of Sammy Watkins. Very good but not quite amazing. Which fwiw.. This team could use some of that.

Sutton on the other hand has more potential imo. He's lacking in the long speed department but he's physical monster who can destroy corners who want to try to toy with him. I doubt Ridley is going to be there. If Sutton is the pick at 16 I wouldn't complain tbh. Lots of potential to be coached up and I think he could make an impact immediately here. Textbook jump ball discipline and that works well with Joe

You’re entitled to your opinion
No need for the condescension from a mod no less.

Ive been very good (minus evans) at getting wide receivers right since i started following the draft and there is just something i think is missing.

He's good at everything without being Excellent at anything which is why i think he will be just only ever be "good" not a top receiver.

Think he will grade out as a late first early second when his career is done but im willing to watch more and become convinced by him

Agree on the first part. Automatic upgrade over anything we have but not a game changer you'd hope to get where he is projected by draft people to go.

Wouldnt be surprised if he slides on draft day
