The WR Thread

I’m very done with falling in love with “big, fast, outside receivers” I would much prefer a tough or elusive great route runner. I don’t give a fuck about their 40 yard dash, you will never once get to run 40 yards without getting touched. Show me agility and ability to get open and I’m interested. For this reason, I can almost guarantee Christian Kirk and Calvin Ridley will be the best wrs out of this class. I’ve seen “st browns” 100 times and I refuse to buy it again.

its why i fell in love with corey davis and juju - corey davis's route running was unreal and juju gave us something that joe hasnt really had

Ok so I just watched most of the realistic prospects available to us rounds 1 and 2, I still need a closer look at Cain and Tate, but as it stands right now I'm back on the Anthony miller round 2 bandwagon, I see no other way. Miller is still my #2, I saw more guys and talked myself out of miller for a bit, but a quick refresher just sealed th deal. Miller is the second best in the class and I don't think it's close, his freak catches, his separation, speed, intensity, explosive routes and jaw dropping body control and ball tracking, his ball attacking and tenacity, incredible YAC ability, I have big questions about every wr in the class except for Miller and Ridley, there is just no denying it in my eyes

havent watched much film yet - but miller's always been my favourite behind ridley and none of the bowl game performances have made me think higher of other guys yet

But, why would he be available in the middle of 2nd?
Idk if he will be but I sure as shit hope so.

I'll stick to it with Washington. I've studied enough to know he's way more NFL ready that people think. But it will depend on the team that drafts him. He doesn't run a lot of routes but he runs them well, he tracks the ball well, controls the CB, attacks the ball and fights for it, can box out better than people think. His hands are OK, not Ridley but not Perriman. People appear to think he's athletic, he's really not. He's just a smart and crafty WR.
I think he's stiff and slow, not top speed slow but movement slow, He's an arm catcher, I just don't like him. It's true he tracks the deep ball well and tends to get behind guys but I don't see him attack the ball and I don't see him box out. I think his absolute ceiling is mike Wallace who is another stiff speedster with questionable and timid hands, but he's a lot stiffer and heavier looking than Wallace, and I think he's gonna have a much harder time reaching that potential.

Anthony miller, cedrick Wilson, and deon Cain should be in that conversation too. Also st brown doesn't seem to be who you think he is. He's an interesting height and speed guy but he's also an excellent and silky smooth route runner who secures every ball that lands in his wingspan. He doesn't attack well but he gets separation and plays a well rounded game

Davis was my favorite receiver in the draft and I was praying for JuJu or Kupp. I was thrilled when we drafted Bowser and was hoping they would get to us in the 3rd.

Stiff maybe, I'll need to watch again to judge that but it wasn't apparent. Juju was pretty stiff as a prospect and it's not a bother now. He does shield off CB really well, there was a deep completion (not the TD) against VTech where he managed to get in front of the CB and stack him while tracking the ball, which ended up underthrown so he had to slow down, allowing the CB to recover, but did a good job putting his body in front of the CB and catching the ball away from his body to not give the defender any chance of making a play on the ball.

This isn't a great WR draft. There's some decent second tier depth (guys who could be slot guys or WR2's if everything breaks right-likely to be drafted between about slot 50-125), but there isn't much of any elite high upside talent outside Ridley, Sutton and maybe Kirk, and when you combine that with the fact that the 2019 class is considered one of the top 3 WR's classes of the past twenty-five years (alongside 2014, 2001, and 1996), WR should be addressed via FA and as I’ve mentioned before, during the 2nd round. Then continue focus on wr in 2019. We are going to need to draft wr over the next couple years anyway.

As lost calls this a two year plan, I call it a four year plan, Two years of heavy defense and two years of heavy offense drafts. We are in the middle of a rebuild guys and are on the way up. Once the offensive rebuild is over we will be a younger team with cap space.

cedrick wilson is one of the highest ceiling WRs ive scouted in a long time. literally the only weakness he has is consistency, meaning he is top flight in damn near every category but on occasion he slips up in his form.

man if you think there is no top shelf elite wr talent outside of ridley you gotta take a closer look. anthony miller has AB level potential, same exact skill set and abilities and it really all comes down to mental and work ethic for him, which imo is unquestioned. sutton has dez bryant levels of physicality and YAC while also being a savvy and technical route guy, his floor is jordan matthews and his ceiling is like jordy nelson/prime dez, st brown has a lot of aj green in his game with his great explosion/fluidity/suddenness and high level route game.

This is just wrong i think. Far more than those 3. In fact those wouldn't even be my top 3

Wilson, one of the highest ceiling? I don't see anything special with his ceiling.

What are you watching? His explosiveness, length, and freakishly quick footwork makefor a hell of a ceiling.
I mean, he has a nice ceiling, but it's not historically good. Auden Tate has a higher ceiling, Ridley has a higher ceiling, so do Kirk and Sutton, Cain has imo a slightly higher ceiling... You could put Miller in as well. I think Wilson's ceiling is Marvin Jones tbh.

i disagree, i think ridley is the only wr who has a ceiling higher or close to wilson

I said top shelf talent outside Ridley, Sutton and maybe Kirk. I’ll watch some more tape on Wilson. Not just Ridley.

I think there is a lot of AB level talent in this draft, hence my sweet spot of the 2nd round for wr.
