Buck is also slow as molasses, even manufactured receptions for buck can be easily negated if just a single person pays attention, like I believe most NTs can catch him in the flats. quality power runner(really, he is still just utterly disrespected in this regard), quality catcher, solid routes and timing, but if you want him to take a dumpoff 7 yards on 3rd and 6 you better hope he can truck the whole secondary(which wouldn't surprise me)

Not that slow, but no it wouldn't be a great idea to dump it off to him. Still, as a pass catcher he really made an impact as a rookie, and anytime we gave him the ball in space he made people miss so if he's 1on1 out of the backfield against a LB I'm betting on him.

He does make guys miss, but if we're talking about a LB who's just a great open field tackler, I don't love our chances, when he can slip out unnoticed and get a head of steam with the ball then he can do damage, he seems to have a great feel for taking the right lanes and he gets a lot of momentum going so just by turning his shoulders he breaks tackles, but if LBs are looking to take him out of the passing game and they can square up with him, I don't think he's gonna be able to do much

Understandable but he's a guy who can run routes, make cuts, and tight turns. Also one quality you really want in a receiving back is the YAC, that's the bread and butter of a receiving back and he has that. He's certainly not what I define as fast but I don't think he's as slow as you say, in even if he doesn't have the element of speed he has plenty of attributes you want in a receiving back, without them I doubt he would be on a roster right now.

oh dont get me wrong, i like buck, i know he is a quality back to have, considering he has such a strong 3rd down skillset though i would like for it to be more complete, he still hasnt shown whether or not hes improved in pass protection, and it would be nice for our 3rd down back to have the speed to make defenses pay for letting him slip out, thats why woodhead torched the bengals for first downs, because when they left a soft spot he hurried out there and got past the sticks in the blink of an eye, its also what ray rice did, its just unfortunate that his speed isnt quite enough to have that same impact.

but i am a fan of buck allen, i liked him in college, was ecstatic when we got him in the 4th, and am happy hes here, im just not gonna disregard his shortcomings is all.

I agree with you on that note in terms of his speed, I know you're not saying that he isn't a good player or anything like that, I personally feel though that he's absolutely better than the other options in West and Langford in terms of a pass catching back. I like both guys as RBs but in West case he's not really the playmaker Buck is in space, and doesn't even possess that elite burst speed either, hence why we were looking for a break-away RB. I think Buck's lack of speed is unfortunate but there's plenty to like in terms of his ability in space to go along with his route skills. I think it makes up for his lack of speed. I also think him being a fit for this offense run style as a threat as a runner who can make linebackers contemplate whether he's handing the ball, blocking or running out the backfield.

Honestly pretty pissed that we cut Mizzel and kept Camp. Get the man tf out of Baltimore. Sick of seeing him injured 24/7.

I was sure it would be Alex Collins over Langford given that I've heard Langford isn't great in pass pro and also has been known to fumble but our backfield is certainly more interesting now than just with west/Allen and Langford can do some things catching out of the backfield
Collins is too similar to buck though. In college he was a straight line power runner, haven't seen him in the pros yet, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Collins get some looks by the end of the years, he had some talent in college

I always liked his consistency, he would explode behind a strong line

I remember seeing an analyst call Dixon "Baltimore's response to Bell."

Thought it was dumb as shit then.... i get it now though.
