Welcome to Baltimore: Ja'Kobi Lane

not completely out of range for me
but definitely nowhere near BPA
he's 98th on my board
and when we picked, there were still 4 WRs available i had over him
Why do you think us and the Giants both went away from Brazzell for 2 guys who struggle to seperate ?

Is it a case of we struggled in the redzone last year and that’s the skillset we targeted. Feel like Ioane and Lane both massively improved us in that area tbf

At least wait to see him play in a few NFL games.
We don't know how Doyle is going to use him. We were expecting him to be a personal 12 and outside zone defender, and with his two offensive picks, it seems we're moving away from that, because it doesn't seem to be where he's best suited.
He has many flashes of brilliance and many inconsistencies, but the play-calling at USC didn't help him much.
I don't like his reluctance to block in the running game, but maybe that was something he learned in college.
We'll have to see how we develop him

100%.

Not a guy I was a fan of but a new coaching staff deserve the chance to prove they can develop these guys better than the last. I really hope to be wrong.

"Can't separate" you guys are rough this isn't Boykin he can run a full route tree. And he's going to catch a million scramble drill balls.
Funny enough I thought he runs exactly like Likely when watching him.
He does have a lot of Likely in him. But he indeed cannot separate. Someone posted he had the worst separation grade of any WR IN THE LAST 3 CLASSES

Think the thing we’re glossing over is that it’s not a physical, can’t fix it defect. It’s something coachable. Not saying we will fix it, but this at least isn’t one of those where the skills are tapped and he is what he is. A lot of technical things that he can do to open up more.

I dont disagree. I think pur natural tendencies are to just baseline assume we can't do that because historically we haven't. But this is a new regime and although I dont have empirical evidence, I think we have the best OC I have ever seen as a Ravens fan.

Oh yeah for sure. I get the panic that we can’t develop this guy because historically, we never have. It’s another swing and something we’ve failed at time and time again.

I think Lane has a lot more tools in the bag and natural skill than the ones that came before though. And as you said, a completely new staff that gets to try to mold him. It’s a little eyebrow raising but they’re shooting for the upside here unquestionably.

Yeah a lot of people said it but if this was John Harbaugh Ravens I’d hate this pick. Only reason I’m excited is because of new staff and Doyle. Since there’s no track record of the new coaching staff, I’ll wait and see but my initial opinion is this was a reach although I get it.

If this guy was brought in to be a TE, I’d love it. But he doesn’t play physical enough for that. He does remind me a lot of Likely even the way he moves in a way.

At 80 I totally would have taken pregnon, build a wall, set it and forget it, and let Lamar cook.

But I do like the vision with this pick. He is more skilled at making contested catches than anyone in the class, more than anyone we’ve ever drafted, it’s innate with him, the box out, the timing, the body control, the hands catching up high, the length, it’s all crazy and you can’t teach it.

He isn’t stiff, and his movement isn’t labored, if he puts the work in and coaches don’t fail him, he can learn route work well enough to succeed. He doesn’t need to be an elite separator, he needs to get crafty enough to get 1 more step than he currently does, that’s all. Teach him routes like a TE, you’re trying to get an angle on a defender, open a window off the defenders back or out of reach, get a yard deeper so you can highpoint one, etc. he doesn’t need to get wide open, he needs a step, he’s got the movement to learn it.

Idk we haven’t done this in a while but I would say the day 2/3 WR drafting in EDC’s tenure has been bad - and they’ve drafted multiple HWS athletes in the 3rd/4th round and none of them have panned out

Lane feels like the boykin pick all over again
we have a completely different staff.

This is the only pick I’m ehh about so far but one thing I’ve had in mind is that EDC said something along the lines of Doyle coming with a plan of how he would use guys they were scouting and discussing.

Would have to put on weight to get there. He's only 208

He's got a bit of Cris Carter in him. Most of those guys do end up sucking in the NFL, but that's the kind of player he'd look like if he succeeds.
