Coaching Carousel 2026

Again, not remotely close to a small turnaround. That isn't debatable. We were No.1 in most major categories after making the changes. In that span, we faced the Steelers, Chargers, Eagles, Steelers and Texans. All of them went to the playoffs. And we were miles better in getting to the quarterback last season, finishing 2nd as team in sacks with 2 players in double digits.
Why didnt the trend continue into this season? Why it only got better last season after we started playing terrible offenses? End of macdonald 1st year, he started turning things up. That shit lead into the 2023 season and our defense was the best ive seen dam near ever besides the 06 defense. Turnaround maybe not small stats wise but hit had less to do with orr defensive coaching.. like its no scheme or nothing out there.. just see ball get ball. I like orr but it was just too early for him

I think it will be Minter or Kubiak.

Stefanski would be ok. He is a very good coach, he did a nice job in Cleveland. Think he probably should still be there.

I think we go with a defensive hire since that is mostly the issue with the team over the past few years. Someone who can come in and tighten up the defense in the 4th quarter and close out games. Robert Saleh who was in a bad spot with the Jets, would welcome a stable organization like us to show his Jets tenure was not his fault. Saleh could hire Mike McDaniel as OC and has connections to the Shanahan tree when it comes to an offensive coordinator. Lamar doesn't need an offensive genius, Lamar is Lamar. He needs someone like a Saleh or even Brian Flores who can calm him down in terms of settling him down and taking what the defense gives you. Flores, as I said in a bad situation in Miami with them tanking and that's never a recipe for success for any Head Coach. So if Saleh & Flores are looking for big redemption stories, we are the best place to do it.

Stefanski I think ends up with the Giants, the interview reportedly went very well for him and given the QB situation in Cleveland he dealt with, he will want to prove he can develop a QB. Dart had a good rookie season, plus they will get Cam Skattebo back from injury and that plays well with what Stefanski had with Nick Chubb in Cleveland.

idk how we pick anyone other than minter and kubiak.. i could see flores too though but anyone else would shock me. I think if we can get klint, we need to go after jim scwartz or morris as dc if possible. If we get minter or flores, lets hope we can get mcdaniel.. shit it me be better defensive coordinators available for us if we go klint

I think it is easier to find a good DC to pair with an offensive minded coach. But also I almost would be okay with one year of McDaniel if it meant we get a superbowl with it. Also I would be pretty happy with Saleh, think he can build a defense and was not the problem on the Jets. Been a sorcerer despite all the 49ers injuries this year even if that group has struggled of late

It's really tough to do what he did without Warner and Bosa for almost entire season. Great DC.

.
Some of the defensive names on the list aren't a good fit for our current roster.
If we switched to a 4-3 formation like Schwarz uses, we wouldn't have enough draft picks to make the necessary moves. The same goes for Flores.
It's the same with some offensive coaches.
No matter what names they mention, a West Coast system and a 3-4 formation is what suits us best right now

It is fun to speculate given the Coaching Carousel might get crazier if Matt gets fired, the possibility of McDermott getting fired if Buffalo loses and who know what the Steelers do with Tomlin if they lose Monday Night. That's a potential of almost three additional openings to make this the craziest off-season to date.

Keep Lafleur the fuck away from us
Same. I was high on lafleur but genuinely worried that the packers always seem to be a mess after you thought they were really good.

First few weeks I thought the packers were a sb team and then they just underachieved.

The meltdown clinic they put on today was so familiar.

Looked like a Harbaugh special !

So do yall think we’re still searching for our head coach when we have the presser on Tuesday?

100%

the guys who coached playoff teams havent even been able to interview yet...
we wont have interviewed all those guys by Tuesday

let alone in-person 2nd interviews

i think the thing to understand about this process is that Bisciotti's not gonna rush because he's mature and experienced (and patient) enough to understand that there's no single right person for the job and that if there's a candidate we like but who wants us to rush to a decision, we will happily wave them goodbye and move on

we also have the benefit that we're the most desirable job by far so anyone vaguely interested in our job is going to wait
and therefore the only teams that won't wait for us to at least narrow down our search, are the teams that get Harbs (and maybe Stefanski)
