The Stout, the Defense, and the Offence

So is Jordan stout becoming the guy he was drafted to be? Quietly he’s had a really good year and this jets game was straight up dominant.

If you get a chance catch the
wired ep. Stout brought up a point about the the rest of the guys being able to get downfield faster which is helping him punt better. The improved personnel all around seems to be contributing.

If we clamp Burrow I'll still be somewhat hesitant about the defense. If we keep this up until the next game against them then I'll truly start believing we have something on that side.

It’s maddening how we’ve dealt with this issue literally forever. We just don’t do the things schematically that teams do to counter certain things.

Why does it feel like we’re the only team who will continue to drop deep or run right up the middle against defenses who are selling out to stop exactly those things?
Because that's John Harbaugh's MO.

not true at all
he's hanging in a long time - the difference is he's getting sacked more because he's not got the athleticism with his injuries to help him escape right now

you definitely see his timing being off but that's also partly down to receivers, routes and whether guys are actually separating - and there's definitely a few plays a game right now where it feels like his internal clock needs to be quicker or you can see the plant and drive in his throw are wrong (leading to inaccurate throws), which again is an obvious side effect of a leg injury

What I mean to say is, it's not like he's hanging in there and chucking it just before getting whacked like a true pocket passer. Not that what I want him to or that's ever been a part of his game. but when you aren't scrambling OR doing that then there's really no way to play high level QB, especially if your OLine is way less than elite.

He's not bolting for daylight when he gets the opportunity either. He's just kinda drifting in the pocket, making late decisions to run and/or curling up and avoiding injury at impact. To his credit he is throwing it away more, something he really never did in the past but it has helped him not make the turnovers.

We agree it's his clock that is out of whack and what he needs to do is be more decisive on running out of there even if he isn't the big play threat he used to be. And as you've been harping, more short throws would help him out as well.

He’s not bolting for daylight because he can’t. It feels that simple to me. He’s tried to but there’s no explosion currently.

i mean that has always been part of his game
just not the only part of his game

his decision-making has mostly been fine-to-good - the problem is that the timing in the offence is wrong and he doesnt have the explosion to go to consistently make plays in the 2nd phase of the play

if he has time to get through his reads, he'll still make plays

it would help if any of the earlier reads in the route combinations could get open sooner too
