The Defense, the Turnovers, and the Redzone Offense

It worries me that Harbaugh keeps stating that the offensive line is doing great.

Tell it like it really is Harbs !!!

Honestly Harbaugh never really been a guy /coach that always transparent. I'm pretty sure Harbaugh is dissatisfied with the offensive line play especially in the red zone . This is not typically a offensive line that Harbaugh generally likes or envision. He likes a smash mouth offense and can't be that when the offensive line isn't moving people but I guess fans believe he's totally fine with the offensive line so far because there hasn't been any instant changes but I simply think Harbaugh isn't going to make changes until he simply believes and feel the change is a upgrade from .

I won't go as sunshiny and rainbowy as you, but I do agree that people should not take what Harbaugh says at face value. He's been here 18 years now and the last 10 or so have been as vague as they possibly can be on literally every important question ever. I'm sure those boys are getting their asses reamed behind closed doors.

I cannot fathom that we go all 17 games and perhaps playoffs with this OL, at some point they HAVE to try something.

I do think Harbaugh might be biding his time on this move, maybe waiting to see which one of the 2 real G options is more deserving and which one of the current starters needs benched, maybe holding out until late season for film purposes and potentially giving us a competitive edge later in the year. I think back to our SB season when we saved the OL reshuffle for the playoffs, how you had to attack our offense totally changed starting wild card week, strategic patience maybe. Idk. But I know there’s no way he feels like this OL can compete

Yea i dnt think harbaugh is suppose to say what people always want him to say towards the media

Sure, I'm desperate enough to buy this. It did cross my mind that they don't want to create a musical chairs situation where the already mediocre Cleveland is bouncing between LG and RG.

And I do get that it's hard to make a move now...

- Emery Jones is just recently at practice as a rookie at a brand new position. They have high hopes but that's going to take some time.
- Ben Cleveland has never really gotten an opportunity and put in just as bad of a preseason performance as the guys we're complaining about right now.
- Corey Bullock is slightly undersized and I don't think they view him as a G at this point based on what I've heard.
- Kenyon Green may be your best immediate bet but his track record is... not great either.
- Joe Noteboom may be a possibility now that Carson Vinson has stepped up but his G track record isn't as good as his T track record.

Don't get me wrong. I'd make a move. I'd have made a move weeks ago. But I also understand the theory that they just don't have better bodies that are ready to step in right now.

I agree. Ideally I don't think they want to have to replace both starting guards. Ben Cleveland likely isn't a guy I think they want starting but like him as their utility /versatile lineman as depth in case of injuries during game day.. Not sure if Vorhees and Faalele can play both left and right guard. I guess Emery Jones is their ideal guy to replace someone unless the ravens somehow trust Kenyon Green to start

the later they go without changing, the more likely emery jones is the change and they're waiting for him to get ready and show something

i think if they were going to put cleveland or bullock in, it would have happened already

notably all 3 of the potential replacement interior options are all guys who play right-handed
Bullock is the backup C but played RG for Maryland
Cleveland has always looked better at RG vs LG
Emery Jones had 36 starts at RT in college

pair that with Vorhees improving (somewhat) and Faalele regressing and i think if the move is made, it's going to be at RG

on the vorhees side of things 3 of the last 5 games have been good outings
he played well against the Rams in week 6
he played well against the Dolphins in week 9
he played well against the Browns in week 11

it feels like emery jones or bust at RG as the only move they can/will make at some point this season

I know they've been working in Jones at both spots (at least as of a couple of weeks ago). Don't know that they settled on one side or the other to this point, so not sure how immediate that switch would be if that is indeed the plan.

I do also know that they were considering Green at LG hard heading into the bye but then Vorhees went out and had a really good game and has stayed solid enough since.

I'm nervous about Falafel .He is as soft as a falafel.

Yeah, I'm definitely not saying Fuh-lay-lay is good right now, but he's never been this terrible in the past either. And that's kind of my point with the upcoming games with Pitt and NE. I'd like to hope that we get the better Falele going forward. If not, there needs to be a replacement. A reclining chair might work...

yeah but hasnt it been time already?
I gave possible reasons earlier as to why it hasn’t happened yet, and others have suggested they are waiting for emery jones to ramp up.

My reasons might be farfetched, but man I just can’t believe the other options are actually worse than faalele

Gotta remember we're talking about a team here that values chemistry. It's why they let Zeitler walk. It's why they traded Moses. They want guys that can stay on the field and grow together. They believe that swapping guys in and out of the lineup makes things worse.

I don't agree with that take, but it's what they believe.

I’m playing a little catch up on film (still breezing through though) so this is related to this game as well as the prior 2…

Zach Orr’s scheme problems I was going on about earlier in the season have seemingly disappeared. It’s almost like he needs a capable S and that unlocks what he really wants to do up front. Kyle Hamilton helps a ton, but it just feels like such a philosophical difference from what he was seemingly asking them to do early in the season. Either that or them dudes really was fucking up that badly early on. It’s night and day. It’s not perfect but such a massive improvement.

Orr has successfully reconfigured his defense for the 2nd straight year. The flock owes many an apology.

The strongest case to get Cleveland on the field isn't about his personal PFF score, it's about a unit that is discombobulated, they are playing even worse than their individual strengths. Guards are the most insulated players on the offense, when one of them single handedly implodes half a dozen plays with regularity it breaks down the confidence of the unit. It's the chemistry that isn't working, so you make a move to improve it.

It's against the Ravens team ethic to not try something different, look at how quickly they identified and made changes on the defense and ST units, but the OLine they just keep rolling out the same group that clearly doesn't work and is getting worse

Respectfully, I disagree. It's not your job to have a very high salary investment defense and shit the bed early in the year to put yourself behind the 8 ball every year. I'm glad things have looked better but dont forget you've literally been playing absolutely trash teams. When we were playing good teams, we were giving up 40+.

Not at all sure we can say the defense "is back". The things I think we can say are Malaki Starks and Alohi Gilman are playing more fundamentally sound S. And that Dremont Jones looks to be a slight upgrade on Oweh.

I apologize for being overly negative, but if you saw the game winning drive on defense vs Cleveland, we got lucky as fuck. Shedeur throw multiple in the dirt when his guy was open. Shedeur overthrew a guy open in the end zone. Sheduer actually threw a TD ball while Awuzie had his back 100% turned. We just got lucky that he played through the whistle on his rip of the receiver's hands and he dropped it.
