The Defense, the Turnovers, and the Redzone Offense

We actually swept the Browns. Kinda nice to do it for once in a while since we haven't done it in years.

Lamar didn't play his best but some insanely flukey plays that happened with the 2 INTs.

Defense was OK. It clinched up when needed but I thought it really left a lot on the field and played down to the Browns. Very sloppy game from our entire team, actually. Redzone offense is terrible.

A dub is a dub and the fake tush push doesn't undo all of the bad, but it got us the swing we needed to put this one to bed.

Can't believe we're now living in a time where the defense is the star of the show. Wild how things can shift in just a few weeks.

I'm sick and tired of the critical down roll out to cut the field down to half when we need to make a play, and I'm equally as tired of the predictability on offense. Need to get the red zone figured out.

But again, it's a win. We'll take it.

Fuck our fucking O-line. There performance today was absolutely pathetic. On a brighter note, this team showed heart today and fought through mistakes which isn't something that normally happens.

Offence:
OL was brutal.
Lamar was uneven and unsettled.
Playcalling was predictable and uninspired (one genius play excluded).

Defence:
Pretty dominant but the Browns offence is putrid.
When Gabriel went out, Orr was having a field day with crowding the LoS. Rush discipline went a bit out of the window but they made enough plays.

Special Teams:
Spotted the Browns two extra possessions and were lucky not to have the offence pinned at the half-yard line at one point. Just awful.

So as far as I am concerned the defense gave up 6 points and the offense/ST gave up 10 points.

I get that the wind hindered the offense to an extent but that does not explain the awful blocking.

The Shedeur Sanders shitshow was the turning point we needed. I legitimately felt like we were losing the grip on the game at the half-time. Outside of a few plays, we completely shut down their defense. I am still beside myself at how many times we have an unblocked defender having a go at Derrick Henry on 1st downs. But man, that play-call was fantastic. I very much feel like the fact that it was 4th down and that our offense wasn't getting the easy yards made them funnel all of their defenders inside. That virtually won us the game. That and the defensive hold at the end, obviously.

Weird to say but I’m glad this team won a game despite Lamar rather than because of him.

I don’t particularly blame him with a line this bad and barely any throws to get into a rut hm against probably the best D in the league but he definitely didn’t lead us to victory today whatever the reason

Also can't believe Dillon Gabriel getting concussed was actually a good thing. He's ass but somehow Shedeur is worse. It's early but I look very wrong on him. Definitely understood his issues with handling pressure but it was really, really bad and magnified against better and faster teams.

it's even worse in the redzone, you're already limited for space to operate in and now you've cut that limited space in half

just a dumb play philosophically and i'd love to know why it's a staple of this offence in key moments

Gabriel at least looked like a reasonable game manger. Sanders felt like he was always a half second away from losing 8+ yards.

i get that he hasn't been repping with the 1s at all

but the fact that his clock hasn't sped up at all since college (and it was slow in college) is wild

And my random shoutout today is to Keyon Martin. In a functional defense with some huge names on the depth chart, he played up to their standard today. He had a rough go earlier this season when we had virtually everyone out, but glad they've stuck by him. Feisty little player.
