The Defense, the Turnovers, and the Redzone Offense

And my random shoutout today is to Keyon Martin. In a functional defense with some huge names on the depth chart, he played up to their standard today. He had a rough go earlier this season when we had virtually everyone out, but glad they've stuck by him. Feisty little player.

the udfa from that group that had to earn his spot through play
notably is the one who's stuck around and looked like he fits best

Watching him rush from basically where a slot CB lines up was wild. So much speed and power. I don't know how you even have a chance to stop that.

yeah one of those 3rd and longs he was lined up in one of the widest-9s i've ever seen lol

i get that he hasn't been repping with the 1s at all

but the fact that his clock hasn't sped up at all since college (and it was slow in college) is wild

For sure. And he had the same issues in the preseason, too. So it just seems like what he currently is.

Also can't believe Dillon Gabriel getting concussed was actually a good thing. He's ass but somehow Shedeur is worse. It's early but I look very wrong on him. Definitely understood his issues with handling pressure but it was really, really bad and magnified against better and faster teams.

Sanders actually pushed the ball downfield

Offence:
OL was brutal.
Lamar was uneven and unsettled.
Playcalling was predictable and uninspired (one genius play excluded).

Defence:
Pretty dominant but the Browns offence is putrid.
When Gabriel went out, Orr was having a field day with crowding the LoS. Rush discipline went a bit out of the window but they made enough plays.

Special Teams:
Spotted the Browns two extra possessions and were lucky not to have the offence pinned at the half-yard line at one point. Just awful.
How can Lamar possibly settle behind this O line and too many run calls through the middle on early downs?

Feels like old times.

Defense did great and created turnovers. Offense could not get out their own way or score touchdowns.

A win is a win though.

I am now extremely concerned about the O-line and Monken. Neither of those two entities have protected Lamar who wasn't great today. How much longer can any of this continue?

4 turnover worthy plays by Sanders, per PFF. On 16 dropbacks. 0 for 8 and an INT today when facing pressure. Cross out the defensive call sheet, scribble down Send the House and you're the odds on favorites.

Garrett was a clear generational talent when he came out that year. It was one of the easiest evaluations ever. One of the few players I would've given up multiple draft picks to get.

Our guard play is trash and now Lindy isn't playing up to what he was last year. I suspect is bc of how wild his two partners are.

Easily 4/5 of the line has been ass all year

What really throttled down our OL was that our OTs also joined in on the action of moonlighting as turnstiles. Myles Garrett activated ragdoll physics today. The OGs were their usually porous selves, especially Daniel Faalele, but at the least the bookends normally level out the negatives somewhat. Glad we were able to overcome it today. That is usually the recipe for losing. Also, Lamar Jackson just does not feel like the has the same dynamic burst as a runner and I wonder if he's just not 100%.

This OL was horrible tonight. Offense minus that TD was anemic. Lamar's worst game this season since the Chiefs game, but there were a few drops, bobbles, and deflections that hurt his completion percentage as well.

Defensively, they only gave up 9 points. Was nice to see them apply pressure again. Special teams was HOT GARBAGE in the first half. Seemed to have clean up their amateurism in the 2nd half.

Losing the turnover battle 3-1 and you would think we lost because these are the type of games we have lost in the past. But this? THIS. This is how you build character. IDGAFF how ugly the win, just get the win and stay healthy. I hope Hamilton isn't too seriously hurt as he seemed to have played through it. Glad we didn't give Shadeur his first win on his first start.
