pretty sure cap isnt allowed to be cleared while in a bid off
partly i think its because we have quite an international base here that the bid-offs have a 12 hour window not a half hour one

Yeah I know. To clarify, that rule for a 15 or 30 minute bid-off was put in place because (1) people were clearing cap and (2) some bid-offs were literally taking days independent of point 1. I see that the rule still "outlaws" point 1 but keeps point 2 very much in the game.

Not mad or anything as I know I should have read the rules, but I just didn't remember that being a thing at all last year, and likely would have bid a little differently had I known.

Well, most of my needs were on the defensive side of the ball. It's not an elite unit but I did get some significant upgrades.

I had a significant overpay for Chandler Jones, but even then he's scheme versitile and is a really good run defender and pass rusher who will be able to bring the heat for 10+ sacks a season consistently barring his health.

Atkins is still an elite DT and will massively help with the interior pressure and run defense

James Bradberry is a really good press corner who will make Malik Hooker's life a hell of a lot easier.

Then we get to FA.

Bryce Callahan was a top 3 slot CB last season. Even coming off of his injury he should be nothing but a. solid addition for me.
Honey Badger is a legit upgrade at the SS spot and can flex out to slot CB when needed(though he should not play there all the time), and also makes Hooker's life much easier.
At the very worst, Eric Weddle(if others do not request a bidoff) is a great 3rd safety and a coach on the field who can serve as a great mentor towards Hooker
Geathers and Desir, two of the better players on my defense return to ensure stability. Desir had a fantastic season last year and looked like a #1 CB, and Geathers is a really good run defender.

The Colts have inadvertantly completed their objective of adding significant talent to this defense.... And I have still have a lot of money to burn...

What to do what to do.

iirc it came in part way through last year's game - started at half an hour and then changed out of necessity/demand

I know I was bargain hunting through pretty much the entirety of last year's FA, so it could be that I just never encountered it.

I think the one bid I'm most shocked about is Verrett. Talented player, but he's played 5 out of 48 games in the last 3 years, and he went for 9 stars...

Expensive for sure, but I also acquired the depth to sustain any injury to him.

Overall I’m very happy with this FA period, it’s expensive, but I have a few guys in mind to cut to clear space, and completely fixing the Raiders secondary will help keep this team in games.

My biggest needs now are the O-line and LB core

Being able to bring in Adrian Amos, Mike Mitchell and Lamarcus Joyner was a haul for me and Amos and Joyner are extremely versatile pieces for the Niners defense. Welcome to the Bay Area.

you've played this game how long. It's never a surprise to me. Of course this time i knew I was doing it.

I can’t say I’ve ever not been surprised. I just suspend my disbelief but the prices still shocked me. I’m not as surprised by some as I am others, namely the small fry dudes who got paid. I’m also surprised Darby went mostly untouched. I considered making a run for Joyner, Collins, Amos, and Clinton-Dix but opted against it. I don’t have the cap others do. Some guys are sitting on mountains of it.

That being said, I’m really not into the safety group from a real life perspective.
