2025 Baltimore Orioles

It's less about the injuries imo, and more about showing that you're serious about winning. Hindsight is hindsight, but I still would've liked Burnes, Eovaldi, Fried, or even Verlander instead of Morton.
No doubt, but with all of the injuries I don’t think it would have made a difference. Just a bad run of luck early on.

True, but man it would've been cool if Rogers came back and was put into a rotation with Fried and Eovaldi.

They need to have at least a 2 year deal on any SP they really want. I think they need two SP's but I'm fine with second tier guys. These one year deals are tough and when players get injured or don't return from injury on time it screws up that whole availability cycle...

I know Morton started off terribly, but having him on a two year deal instead of just the one would have done two things: first it gives us stability for a second year (theoretically) and second, if he's doing well - as he was - then trading him at the deadline with an extra year of control nets us a little higher trade value. We'd probably have to pay something toward his salary but that would likely be low.

Sadly, this Yankees series is not going well for us. Really hoped it would be a statement for us. I guess it is, but not what I wanted to see at the end of a long year.

Dude, I’m not sure what you expected putting out a waiver wire bull pen against the #1 hitting team in baseball, but the 1 win so far is OK. And the starting matchup today is most favorable with Kyle and Shittler(lol).

Not sure what I’m missing but it seems you are over emphasizing the 2 year deal thing. I get what you are saying, but don’t think it’s that big of a deal unless it’s a top gun type of guy.

I don't think that extra year really matters when you're bringing in old guys like Morton, Gibson, and Sugano. Morton was just DFA'd so selling "high" was probably the right move there.

Idk. The injuries have certainly been unprecedented with our pitching staff over, really, the past 3 years. I just think the constant turnover is bad and having the hope of some continuity during, essentially, a rebuild of a pitching staff is better than a complete rebuild year after year. Of course, nothing is given, so even a two year deal could be an injury scenario too. I just think that there has been a lot of turnover that might have been mitigated by offering some potentially better fits an extra year to entice them into a contract. I was pretty high on Quintana and Manaea and Cobb in the off-season. Cobb has been injured the whole season, for the most part, and is looking at TJ after a hip injury. Quintana has been great. Manaea has had injuries and has come back to a full SP rotation so he's doing great out of the pen now with the Mets. Of these three, only Manaea was a 3 year deal, the other two were one year deals.

I was most worried at the end of last year that recovery of guys we were expecting back would be slow and that guys who were injured last year wouldn't be ready at the beginning. Both seem to have been true to some extent. Idk that 2 year deals would have netted us better FA's, but I'll stick to that argument... ;) :)

Final day of the 2025 Season. Today, the Orioles have a chance to screw up the Yankees' effort to win the AL East by closing out the year with a win. Toronto plays Tampa, with both teams tied heading into the final day of the regular season. Will the O's play spoiler and help Toronto win the AL East or will Tampa play spoiler for Tampa?

Blue Jays hold the tie breaker.

We made it to the playoffs after all! Well, kinda, sorta. Kevin and Ben are doing the Padres Cubs broadcast. lol
