2023 Forum Mock: Discussion Thread

I wanted to keep him, but the rules of this mock don't allow me to do what I want to do with him. If I can't do that, then he is just walking.
I'm genuinely curious here, not being snarky.

What rules of this mock specifically don't allow for that?

Can feel free to PM if you'd like as well.

I'm not complaining, but there are 2 things:
I obviously can't extend him, because there is only one year of the mock
I can't tag him and go over the cap, even when I'm going to trade him and go back under really soon.That bugs me, but I'm fine with it.

If you can tell from my tone, I'm not irritated about the first one, but for next year, can you just look over the second one?

The reason we have the 2nd rule in place is because that's how the real life NFL works. In order to tag Lamar, the Ravens are going to have to create room first, even if the intent is to trade him.

Haven't done the math on your team yet but playing the numbers through in my head, I think you could quite easily keep him and trade him (if you wish) without significant disruption to everyone else on the team. I'm happy to walk you through those scenarios when we have the cap stuff straightened out.

In the real NFL, you can before a certain date, I think. Check your PMs.

franchise tag isn't available in the real life scenarios at this point. During the league year or when franchise tag becomes available teams can not in no particular way exceed the cap, even if they are trading him. here trading begins after we have selected our teams or all teams are selected and roster lock begins.

even just clearing around 6 million or so of space would allow for a tag and trade (non exclusive tag). I'm sure there will be takers with this scenario.

right, so in the real NFL you could do it, but just not at this point... Because Baltimore will most likely extend him or tag and trade him. Just asking, I can go over the requirement for stars set aside for the draft temporarily, right?

@Thezone27

Ok, We will update the rules with this soon, but if you want to tag Lamar Jackson and it brings you above the cap that is fine. The caveat is you will have to be under the cap prior to restrictive free agency beginning or you will have to get under the cap one way or another, even if that means you relinquish the tag.

This is good for all teams
