The 2023 Offseason Thread

So tomorrow is the big day. One of three things will happen.

Lamar has a long term deal
Lamar is exclusively tagged
Lamar is nonexclusively tagged
Wait I thought Tuesday is the deadline??

We really about to just get back 2 first rounders for him huh

Using the nonexclusive would be so spicy lol.

But I'd understand it for 2 reasons. One if the Ravens are confident no one will give him what he wants, then it probably accelerates him taking our best offer.

Additionally if he wants to "prove himself" again this year by just playing on it, the salary is dramatically lower allowing way more room for us to do stuff.

The only lose situation is if someone is willing to give him what he wants and we only get 2 1st rounders.

Lots of people at this point saying that the non-exclusive might be the move because they don’t believe teams are going to pay up. Only team I’ve seen mentioned consistently in this scenario is the Falcons, but even then people are questioning that because they absolutely were not going there with Watson

If we lose Lamar and only get back two first round picks I’ll be pissed. I think a team would absolutely give up two first and give in to his contact demands. This is a franchise QB we’re talking about here, somebody is going to be desperate enough in my opinion.

There's no doubt in my mind that some team is willing to pay the contract he wants.

Big thing is that it’s not that simple. It’s the contract plus the capital to get him. Puts your job on the line immediately if you make that move and it fails. Andrew Berry in Cleveland is already on the hot seat if they don’t improve from last year. A lot easier said than done.

Thing is that many head coaches and GMs are already on the hot seat. The future won't be important to them if they can't immediately get a winning record to save their job.

All relative. Of course there are a lot of guys on the hot seat but if you fuck this up, you’re basically out of the nfl for good and then the owners have to contend with cleaning up that mess. This decision is much bigger than just giving a guy money

Agree and I doubt that such franchise altering moves are done all by the GM himself without consulting at some point.
