The 2023 Offseason Thread

People are actually trying to bash Bateman when the NFLPA itself said we were horrible with how we dealt with injuries and all of us complained about our offensive scheme. The team absolutely was fucking over some of the players.
Where did the NFLPA say we were horrible with how we dealt with injuries?

Not sure if you noticed, but Bateman was complaining after EDC answered a direct question asking why he hadn’t been successful at drafting receivers. He answered the question saying we needed to do better drafting receivers, and that he had not yet hit on an “all pro” type.

I mean, very few rookies come in as all pros. While the guys aren't superstars we have absolutely failed at coaching them or putting them in a scheme that works to their benefit. I bet someone like Duv would look much better on other teams. That is a team issue, not just a drafting issue.

OK, but why would Bateman call out the GM who was answering a reporter's question? That was silly and dumb.

Also meant to ask... how were they "f***** over some of the players?"

Putting them in position to fail by giving them to an OC who in way way, shape, or form uses them to their strength, and being utterly horrible at handling injuries. There's a reason you have former guys all stepping forward about how bad our strength and conditioning coach was. Even Marlon taking a shot at that part.

Either EDC is not getting guys that fit the team or the coaching staff is failing at using them.

and if Lamar threw the ball to an open Duv...

You’re all over the place here, not sure what to reply to. lol

I think the training staff are the main people who help to treat ongoing injuries, they actually scored a B+ on the NFLPA survey. https://nflpa.com/baltimore-ravens-report-card#training-room

No doubt Saunders is probably an asshole, seems none of the players liked him, but it wasn’t because he was causing them to be injured. lol Guessing he was working the shit out of them, inflexible and not a people person.

he may have caused the injuries, but he wouldn't treat them

Well tbh the ravens don’t draft wider receivers in the first round very often, but when they do they suck at it. I mean they drafted Mark Clayton in the 1st round of 2005. Their next 1st round WR was Perriman in 2015. Then Marquise Brown in 2019 and then Bateman in 2021. So the best 1st rounder so far was Brown, then he goes to play for a pass happy cardinals team and has done nothing special there. The most productive, drafted WR the ravens have ever had was Torrey Smith and he was taken in the 2nd round.

I like Bateman and I think he could be very good, but he’s only played 18 games out of 34 in 2 years.

35, no?

I'm bashing Bateman because he's bitching to Eric about his comments about having better receivers. That's who Bateman was addressing with his tweet.

Strength coach isn't the reason our WR room isn't good enough.

And if Bateman's unhappy that Eric said it publicly, tough shit. He'll just have to be unhappy about that then. Fans want transparency. This is what transparency looks like.

You forgot the infamous Travis Taylor.

Yeah, there's also a reason why they're stepping up NOW, after both of the guys they're complaining about have conveniently already been fired. Honest and integrity aren't just for when its "convenient".

And EDC isn't getting the WRs to fit this team. He literally acknowledged that in his press conference. It was the exact kind of honesty fans should demand from their GM.

Problem is Bateman didn't like that honesty, because Bateman clearly thinks the problem in the WR room isn't talent. He thinks its coaching.

And maybe he's right. I just want to see fans take accountability for that, and I want to hear the fans who think the WR room is talented enough to win with and that it's just a coaching thing.

And if that's the case, why are we discussing upgrading the room?

Strength and conditioning staff is in the weight room, and creating and implementing the strength and conditioning programs. Their job is to make sure these guys are as fit and able as they can be.

Training staff is mostly for injury recovery and injury prevention. Providing treatments on injured players, developing recovery protocols, etc.

Thanks. Definitely conditioning can lead to injuries which they got a F- in lol.

Strength coaches work on strength and conditioning, training staff(physical therapists, certified athletic trainers) work with the players preventing, diagnosing, treating and rehabbing injuries.
