Lamar Jackson

What are the chances of the Ravens getting a deal done for Lamar (with both sides being happy) by Monday before "Franchise Tag Tuesday?"

Slim to none and slim just left town. Honestly with each passing day it feels like the chances of Lamar being a Raven at all moving forward is going down. At this point my expectations are low, and I'm just waiting to hear the trade announcement.

If this is true… big if. I think it proves what a lot of us have been thinking: Lamar’s value has been greatly inflated by the flock and the markets likely not there. I never thought it was realistic for a team to give up 3 firsts and pay 250 mil guaranteed

Or, other teams may see more value in Lamar than the Ravens FO does and may be willing to offer him that $250M.

This could also be a part of the Ravens FO's strategy to truly see what Lamar's value is on the open market and then they will either match the other teams' offer to Lamar and sign him or, go ahead and trade him away to receive those 2 first-round picks.

To me, this is sad that it has gotten to this point between the Ravens and my guy Lamar! :brickwall:

Nah i don’t think so. If other teams truly saw more value than the Ravens I’m guessing EDC already has something lined up. I think teams have been consistently low for the Ravens with pick compensation

Hihgly douby it. Eric wants to keep him, but he'll get a ton of picks/players for us

Yeah I’d be shocked if teams have not been inquiring about what it would take to get a deal done.

They have been acquiring , they’ve just been low balling the Ravens at or beneath the non exclusive tag price. Think about it… why else would the Ravens be willing to risk giving up so much of their control

Well that makes a lot of sense but honestly I think they are at a point where they don’t think they can get a deal done by the July deadline and really don’t want to pay him 45 mil in 23. To your point they probably know how much teams have offered and know how much guaranteed money is at stake. They still have the ability to match any offer. It has risks of course, but it could be their best option.

Well realistically, the reason you consider the non-exclusive tag is because you want the cap space to build the roster. Exclusive tag severely hamstrings what this team can do in the offseason in terms of personnel upgrades.

Basically a lot of paths under the exclusive tag involve cutting players you'd probably like to keep (Campbell, Zeitler, Pierce as examples) or just simply not upgrading the roster to a point where you're going to be a legit contender this year.

And there's not a ton of value in paying $45M to a player when you don't think you're going to be a contender.

Realistically, though, I think the exclusive tag is the way they're going to go anyway. I think its more of other teams seeing the same thing we see (i.e. exclusive tag is a cap problem) and thinking that one solution to it is to do the non-exclusive tag.

For me, the non-exclusive tag makes no sense this week. You carry the same cap hit now on both tags. The cap hit doesn't increase for another like 7 weeks or so.
If you feel you can't get a deal done in that time, you can still trade him before the draft. And would think you'll get at least the same compensation in a trade in April as you would by a non-exclusive tag today. Likely significant more.

That's my point. EDC mentioned that there were 5-6 avenues he could take in the process. Perhaps, there are other teams that have reached out concerning Lamar's value to them. What the Ravens devalue others will value visa versa.

Apparently EDC left the combine early to fly down to Lamar’s home in South Florida to negotiate. Sounds like the tag is still likely but that’s a massive effort to get something done. Unsure if he’s still there but hopefully he’s working it

If its the same report from over the weekend, pretty sure he's already left and there is no deal imminent.

that still feels like a pretty big deal though to try and move things along
clearly if he's doing that, he doesnt feel the gap is insurmountable
