Lamar Jackson

Also, Hawks fans are becoming unbearable. I like Russ and everything, but his fans are now pointing to our Pro Bowl selections as another way to demean Lamar because of the “talent around him”. It’s getting so comical at this point. It’s almost as if Russ doesn’t have Lockett, Metcalf, Carson, etc. I forgot he’s playing with a bunch of nobodies that were just signed off the street. Our number one WR won’t even have 1,000 yards receiving this year. I reallyyyyyy hope Lamar gets MVP just to rub it in even more.

Lamar will get the MVP

so this article is enlightening for a lot of reasons - but also makes it clear that there's a number of executives around the league who are still hating on lamar a bit for some reason

Multiple execs [5 of the 24] who voted for Wilson (28 TDs, 109.3 passer rating) made their case in part on his longevity, since teams have eight years of tape to use in devising a plan against him. Many teams are still facing Jackson, and that scheme, for the first time. "I think Baltimore's defense has put [Jackson] in a lot of [good] spots," one GM said, noting that Don Martindale's ascending unit takes pressure off Jackson and the offense. "If I had to go win a game right now, what quarterback would I take? I'd take Russell Wilson."

I just don't know how you can justify that take right now... especially based on what's happened this season so far.

"Most coaches wouldn't even draft the guy because he doesn't fit or he wasn't good on the board."

this quote seems extra out of place right now - suggesting that lamar's not obviously always been intelligent and a hard-worker... good on the board is an excuse - ravens had no problem even not seeing him use the board - he was such a lock as a character and his football iq etc that we didnt need to interview him (which helped hide our interest in him)

just a lot of salty sounding nfl execs all over this article - kind of enlightening though as to why so many teams missed on him - and how lucky we are as ravens fans to have one of the consistently best front offices in the league

They've been exposed by these young QBs last few years, they'll use any excuse - regardless of how little sense it makes - to keep their asses in the seats.

They’re bitter that they’ve missed. Another trend in the especially harsh critics of Lamar is the majority are former players. I’ve noticed this on a lot of the talk shows. The last guys to come around are often guys who played. I don’t think it’s because they have a point, I think that it’s an irritated ego peppered with jealousy. These guys have been lauded and told they’re the best athlete in the room their entire lives. When someone starts wrecking their league it triggers them to some degree. Tony Gonzalez has been a prime example of this behavior.

I agree with your points. The player that surprises me the most is Tony Gonzalez. though. Really disappointing.

btw, we try and keep the board active in the offseason by running some draft games.

That’s ridiculous. MVP is a yearly award. No ones hotter and more dominant than Lamar right now. Lamar beat Russ heads up.
Lamar destroys rams while Russ struggles and lost.
Lamar defeated the then undefeated pats
The resume is there.
The old heads are just too stubborn.

Good!

I'm quoting Tony Lombardi's article on RSR today about the twisted logic Lamar haters are using (Cowherd comes to mind) to make Wilson their MVP. Not going to happen but the logic is Wilson has only 1 prowler besides himself and Lamar 11! This moron doesn't see that Lamar is the reason we have 11 more going to the pro bowl? That is the most twisted upside down logic I've heard all day to deny Lamar the truthful glory he deserves. How can hate be so perverted I wonder sometimes! Any way I'm cutting and pasting his article verbatim. Not a single word posted below after the italicized sentence is mine just to be clear:

(Seattle fans and Cowherd, maybe Collinsworth the othe other hater) rationalized while considering Lamar versus Russ, that since Seattle has only 1 other Pro Bowler not named Russell Wilson, that Wilson should edge out Lamar Jackson for the coveted award since Lamar’s efforts have been supported by 11 other Pro Bowlers.

Talk about tunnel vision!

The way I see it, the mark of an MVP is a player who more than any other player in the NFL, fuels his team’s success via accomplishment and by making those around him better. Lamar Jackson and his unique talents, spreads the field and in doing so, he opens up the running game for a Pro Bowler named Mark Ingram and he helps to create separation for receivers and tight ends by holding the ball a bit longer given his extreme escapability – like Pro Bowler Mark Andrews, for example.

Because of Lamar’s speed, elusiveness and ball handling skills, he forces defenders to hesitate and consequently, such hesitation gives his blockers like Pro Bowlers Ronnie Stanley, Marshal Yanda and Patrick Ricard a better chance to create leverage versus opponents.

And guided by Lamar, the Ravens No. 1 scoring offense (33.7 PPG) often takes the lead in games, sometimes a commanding lead, which allows defensive coordinator Wink Martindale to take liberties, understanding that opposing offenses are forced into being one-dimensional and abandon the run game. All of this helps Pro Bowl defenders such as Matt Judon, Marlon Humphrey, Earl Thomas and Marcus Peters.

As for the team’s other Pro Bowlers, Justin Tucker and Morgan Cox, moving the offense in position to score certainly helps their respective causes, don’t you think?

Tony Gonzalez hates because he believes he is an honorary white dude! The most irrational hate I've seen on TV!

hell if it was more than just an annual award, Drew Brees would have won last year, not Mahomes.

so apparently mike garafolo at some point this week mentioned that the ravens have already basically decided that lamar wont play in week 17 - i havent seen a tweet but apparently on nfl network he said he doesnt expect lamar to play in the steelers game

would be odd if we've decided that already but garafolo has spent a lot of time in and around owings mills and baltimore games so its fairly credible
