The Offensive Line Thread

I pray we don't go WR in round 1 with Ozzie pulling the trigger... I'm hoping these 1 year deal guys are let go and we can pick them up in FA and attack OL/RB in the draft.

We dont know how to draft or develop recievers, thats why I prefer that we continue to acquire them through trade or free agency.

Doubt it happens, but he's willing to play guard. Also depends on how much he wants.

I doubt it does too, just wanted to see what everyone's thoughts were on here. Of course on FB, everyone's saying to do it but they don't understand the cap situation and they don't seem to care to know if he really is ready to go.

Wouldn't hurt to give him a second look. IMO
I agree. I wouldn't mind them giving him another look. As the article you posted said, we could probably get him for around the vet minimum. I think I would rather he play center than guard because that's what he excelled at, moving Jensen to guard would suffice.

We looked at him back in what? May? Time has passed since we last evaluated him, and his asking price might of gone down since there hasn't been much interest in him. They should take another look.

Agree with a lot of what you are saying here but the season hardly hinges on tomorrow's game. This team, especially the offense and definitely the O line, is still very much a work in progress . I think they could shit the bed(which probably won't happen) and still have a good chance at a solid season.
Well to say they "shit the bed" would be an understatement!

So we'll get to see if they can follow that up with a solid season. In no way do I think we are as bad as we looked this past Sunday, but the concerns about both sides of the ball remain, especially now that we lost yet another player in the trenches (Urban).

They shit the bed, the couch, the lawn, everything! Needless to say I don't think Biscotti is lobbying for a return trip to Wembley. lol

The number of injuries has been staggering, but hopefully they can pull it together.

IF he's really healthy, and IF we could pay him; should we take another look at him?
I’d definitely bring him in here because he could go to C or LG for us as I believe his pass pro is still good but it’s his run blocking that’s started to fall off. We could then shuffle Howard or Hurst to RG or leave Howard at RT and move Hurst to RG. I think that’s a better lineup than we have currently and it would definitely give us something. His salary isn’t even fully guaranteed because he’s a vet and we’d be signing him after week 1

stanley osemele jensen yanda wagner if ozzie didnt restructure 1000 contracts and flacco gave back some $$ to play behind that o-line

On the flip side then the defense would be shit. Wagner means Williams wouldn't be and you see how the defense plays without him. Also Weddle woudn't be here as well as a few others for the price Osemele got. I think people seem to forget from 2013-2015 about how much this team needed great safeties and how many big plays the defense was giving up...

With the relative success we've had with Howard I honestly think we could get more from the FA scrapheap right now than we're getting out of these bums Hurst and Skura.

You know you would think being a bigger guy you could at least be in a defensive lineman's way for at least a solid two seconds. Skura is the definition of a turnstile. When I watch his blocks it makes me cry. I don't know how he is on the team.

injuries injuries and injuries - tbf to the front office he literally wasnt on the team until 2 weeks ago but he's the last resort and there's a reason he was cut

What's really maddening about this is we're running a power blocking scheme with two finesse guards, not only are they devoid of the requisite power to play in our scheme they're both turnstiles. In the past when we've been forced to scrape the bottom of the barrel we would bring in guys like Keydrick Vincent, Andre Gurode and Bobbie Williams etc who could at least move bodies.

true but when you make the decision to invest that much $$ into the qb, building the offense around him should be priority #1. with all of these additions to the defense they have looked like crap the past 2 games plus the browns moved the ball through the air at will but the rookie made the costly mistakes and cincy looks like they struggled because of the oc because since the change they are scoring a lot now. not sure i am buying that the defense is improved. pees sucks as well. dude cannot make adjustments whatsoever. no players on the offense scares any defense. ozzie has made some awful picks lately and it shows.

i think that's more a testament to the dearth of quality o linemen in the nfl at the moment rather than a bad job by the front office - the bottom of the barrel is even bottomier now

What I mean is you can find maulers and run block specialists still waiting for a call, I mean if our guards are going to be turnstiles then they should at least be able to move the man in front of them, or if you're lacking there at least show the ability to pull or mirror in pass pro... you have to offer something anything besides being glorified speed bumps.
