The Offensive Line Thread

Okay, so Alex Lewis is out for season...

This leaves us with:

- Three solid tackles clear to make the roster pending one's physical: Stanley, Howard, and Hurst, who can start at RT and be the swing.
- Two and a half guards: Yanda, Eluemunor, Skura. One is good and two are kinda question marks.
- One and a half centers: Jensen and Skura.

We need to make a couple signings. Also, Wesley and/or Nembot are going to make the roster. By the way -- both looked decent in preseason, but they played against the worst.

I'm not super concerned about the starting lineup yet due to the bright spots yesterday. But if we get one injury on the interior, we're toast.
 
Well, I suppose we can look on the bright side- Austin Howard has guard experience and he was, I would imagine, expected to compete with Lewis, so there was always a chance that Lewis was going to get beat out. And with how Hurst has looked, it isn't as drastic a drop off at RT as I thought initially.

Trying to find the positives in all the madness.
 
Maybe this season can teach Ozzie that investing in the offensive line is actually a good idea. That'd be fucking great.

At this point I'd consider trading a high rounder for a guard. Might do us well.

One more positive: we're finally going to play some rookie linemen and let them get the snaps they need to be starters.

The biggest roadblock to oline development in the world of padless training camp practices is live bullets. More live bullets, faster development.
 
Just put Yanda back on the left side so that way Flacco's back doesn't get killed and go trade for a middle of the road guard to play on the right.

Potentially, we could still have Howard at LG and Hurst at RG, leaving out a rookie, which would probably make me most comfortable with Jensen being new to C, but at the same time, entirely possible Skura or the rookie (not going to try to spell that name) wins out and it gives a young blood a chance, as you've said.

Exciting and nerve wracking all at once.

I like the idea of more young people playing. It bodes well for 2018, especially since we may lose Jensen after this season.

As much as this is true, I'd rather have a healthy Siragusa than Elumenor who's very raw. As great as Stanley is in pass pro, he's one man. Flacco might have a ton of pressure coming to the blind side now because we are starting a fifth round rookie? Does he have a lot of potential? Yes, but he's not ready yet(granted I have yet to see the preseason game because it doesn't air until tomorrow in california). I'm even more pissed now than I was before about the lack of addressing the offensive line. It should have been a top priority. Again, these new changes and whatnot don't matter if Flacco goes down. From what I heard last night, the right side of the line, and Jensen should be fine, and Stanley is a stud. But having someone who could potentially be a massive Gino Gradkowski esq liability makes me very concerned. I have full confidence in Stanley, Yanda, Howard going forward and hearing good things about Jensen is awesome. But I still have to see it to believe it for Hurst, and have 0 faith in the depth.

Just saying. We need to make more moves and should have made this a bigger priority. I want Ozzie's head if Flacco goes down with a major injury, which I think is inevitable at this point sadly.

Zack Martin is up for a contract soon... maybe extend jimmy first day of the offseason to offset that cap hit, extend Wallace.

Big dreams I know...
 
I really feel like this is the Twilight Zone. I can't believe we've lost this many people due to injuries at a single position group but I guess it is par for the course like we did a couple years ago at CB. Seems like we're in some vicious cycle of injuries to a single position group. I just don't get how this is happening. It's just really bad luck, like we pissed off a gypsy or something.

Bisciotti needs to stop going to Romania. We can't take this attrition!
 
Bad news about Lewis. I'm not sure about our depth - maybe we need to bring someone in.
If it had been someone on the defensive line on the other hand...
