The Offensive Line Thread

one thing i noticed we did more today even before skura went down was use a 6th lineman more than im used to seeing us use one in bowanko - the raiders did it a lot last year and it helped - i wonder if itll become more of a staple of our offence especially with our limited tight end availability
I’ve always wondered why we didn’t do this more. Giving Flacco time in the pocket is imperative.

especially as ive so often been frustrated this year that we so often only send 2 receivers on routes and have everyone else blocking - so why not just put your best blockers in
i like bowanko as that 6th blocker as well because of his length - i know he's technically a guard/center but i think he looked pretty good outside yesterday (albeit he was outside the tackle)

We need to give Perriman more chances in three receiver sets. He needs to get his confidence up and more on passes where he can use his speed, not three yard inside routes.

i couldnt really see on the broadcast footage but there were a few people on this board who were adamant he was so open a number of times and he just wasnt in the first 2 reads on the play

The Ravens only bombed 1 of those seasons to the level of what Billick did and that was because literally the entire team got injured. When your starting QB goes down the season is over and thats just that. Also most people did not think Billick was very good whereas most of the league would sign Harbs if they got the chance.

No matter how you dress it up 3 out of 4 missed playoffs is 3 out 4 missed playoffs, maybe if Harbaugh didnt insist on playing bum ass Hurst then he wouldnt have rolled up into Flaccos leg, but we dont get the benefit of maybe and hypotheticals, you either produce or you dont ie next man up remember? You wanna weigh the loss of Flacco so heavily then you can consider how worthless Harbaugh would be with Boller, or how Billick would have been with Flacco.

He had some opportunities there but he didn't get the ball, I think he'll begin to heat up because he was certainly getting more open on his routes on Sunday. I hope he gets more targets as well to boost his confidence.

i mean its not like harbs had much choice but to play hurst - it was either play hurst or literally go on the field with 10 players and only 4 offensive linemen...

I agree, lets hope Flacco notices him more.

I think he's had a disappointing start to the season but his Pittsburgh game was easily his best, but prior to that he wasn't playing near to his expectations, I hope he can build off of what he did last week. Overall I definitely think we made a great pick. I will also say this, he's improved in run blocking this season.

he's been battling an injury hasn't he?

Wait trades are a real thing right? I didnt just imagine it? And I dont mean trade for more trash cans.

who would you suggest who is even remotely realistic and who wont mortgage our future with the loss of picks and/or cap space?

pretty sure the only guys teams will trade away on oline at this point in the season are trash cans...

Yes... They're real..

But this isn't the NBA or MLB. Trades for big name stars in the NFL are rare, and for a good reason. And prized offensive linemen don't grow on trees. Teams tend not to get rid of them.

And even with high prizes that could be on the block like Norwell. Norwell is going to be a FA next season anyway, and the panthers cannot afford to resign him. So tell me, why in the ever-loving fuck would an NFL team trade with the panthers for him when next offseason they could just sit and wait for him to be a FA next offseason and not give up future capital(draft picks) in order to get him. "But what about Eugene Monroe". That's different. We were far more desperate at the time and took advantage of an idiotic front office to get Monroe for basically nothing. Not only that, but it was a risky trade because some other team would have been able to sign Monroe off of the free agent market. We were lucky we were able to retain him.

A trade would be incredibly risky. Only options available would be guys who are on the last years of their deal and even though we'd get "first dibs", it'd still be no guarantee that we'd be able to retain them.

Don't get me wrong. Neglect of the oline is straight up the main reason I think this season is going to blow up in our face eventually, but trading for someone is an incredibly unrealistic and risky option.

No point in trading at this point. We have have 4 OL on IR. No reason to waste a pick on another. See what we have and keep it moving. Be patient until the off season unless a great player on offense is miraculously put on the trading block.

Any upcoming free agents, older high level veterans etc we obviously missed the boat on Laken Tomlinson and Allen Barbre, neither is a world beater but they still have obvious abilities that our cans lack and are doing good things for their new teams.

Im just yelling at clouds though, because we dont have the balls to make a real move.

its nothing to do with balls - its to do with cap space

Either Tomlinson and Barbre would have fit under our cap, probably both without Bergwankos contracts and a bit more creative cap management.

Edit: Im making a point about doing something and not being "patient" which is akin to "lets try again next year".

Would you call him that to his face? Of course you wouldn’t because you can hide behind your little keyboard and be a tough guy! But that’s your opinion and we have to respect it. I just really get tired of people who do nothing but criticize the Ravens every post and everything is so negative. The line played awesome yesterday and everyone knows that regardless of people who just won’t let it go! Maybe they just need to double med or get counseling. Somthing like that maybe the only help....
way to stick up for your team, but people have opinions and as you stated we have to respect that, even this it does get frustrating listening to people constantly being negative.

First off if you are going to argue that going 0-16 is the exact same as going 9-7 I am going to point at you and laugh because there is really nothing else that can be said other than to laugh. One means you were an awful football team and the other means you were 1 or 2 plays from making the playoffs.

That being said yes when your only losing season is due to everything getting injured yes you get a pass. Hurst was starting BECAUSE of injury. The Ravens lost all of there best players on both defense and offense and still went 5-11. Think about how insane that is. A team that had no playmakers on it, no QB, the remnants of a good defense but lacking its top 3 players which meant a bad secondary a bad front 7 and on offense a bad OLine a bad QB and no real weapons. That 2015 had no business winning 5 games and yet they did. I would actually be more annoyed by it if the Ravens hadnt gotten in my eyes the perfect player out of the top 6 for them so they certainly didnt win more than they needed to.

I get when people have an opinion based on emotion and they are not going to swayed by logic and reason but can you at least admit that your desire to see Harbs gone is not based on anything you want to see done differently or anything he has done wrong, or really anything other than feeling like we should have done better and not caring about why that did not happen.

Mind you, that 2015 team were in every single game except the Chiefs and Seahawks game. Every other loss came down to the wire.
