I actually think our d-line is overrated right now. Williams is great at forcing plays towards the sideline, Pierce can stop the run, and Henry and Wormley are rotational pieces. It's not bad but I wouldn't call it stacked.
it's stacked in that it's over-saturated with quality pieces even if none of them are elite players
Williams is a premier run-stuffing nose tackle (even though we are paying for more - he's at least good at that)
Henry is a great interior rusher
Brent Urban (when healthy) was supposed to be the iron man of the unit who played the most snaps and effects both the pass and run
Pierce is a solid nose and hopefully will be moved back to 3tech (and swap with brandon williams) and can progress from where he was in his rookie year - ideally henry and pierce would both play large snaps but henry would be spelled on obvious running downs by pierce and pierce would leave the field more often on passing plays (albeit its more important that henry play the pass than pierce play the run)
Carl Davis who improved as the season went on at DE despite that not being his best position necessarily
we have 5 starter worthy players straight up - that's fairly stacked
and that's not to mention chris wormley who flashed in limited play (and hopefully will grow like willie henry having pretty much had a red shirt rookie year), pat ricard who is probably transitioning this offseason to be a full time full-back who will be an emergency DL on gamedays
Bronson Kaufusi probably doesnt even make the roster as a 3rd year player
we dont have a superstar dominant interior guy like a donald but ill be interested to see if this unit (which is a really young group still) can kick on and start to dominate - hopefully urban can stay healthy because if we can field him and Henry in the same front and create interior pressure then it should hopefully help our edge guys feed too
