2018 Scouting Combine

Think yes, but a team isn’t going to change their mind based on only the bench press unless of course they had two guys they liked equally and this was the tie breaker. Thereare a lot of reasons why he could have had a bad bench. The actual game tape is the most important. I will be interested to see how he does at his pro day as well as the the other drills tomorrow.

If he only knew he could do 10 or so reps I would think he would of found an excuse to skip the bench like Tim Williams did. Which suggests he could at least double it at his pro day. Which 16 -20 would be totally cool. Some players are really strong in the trenches but are not good bench dudes. However 4 is something to stop and take a closer look.

I know former female cheerleaders that got into lifting that could do about that.

Exactly - so something must have gone wrong or he must have been feeling unwell or not bothered or something because even if he had awful play strength and wasn’t an obviously powerful guy he’d still have been able to do way more than 8...

I’m only worried if the reason he couldn’t do it was because of a serious injury

Do you really think Isaiah fucking wynn, the second most powerful and physically dominant prospect in this entire class, can only bench 8 times? Get real. I wouldn't be shocked in the slightest if he could outbench Nelson and jus chose not to.

It was thought that billy price was gonna be the guy to beat (obviously until his injury)

Really? Price is a nasty fuck and all but I didn't peg him for a guy who could outbench Nelson or wynn.

Ahhh *smacks self in head*
I wouldn't touch him at 16 if he had a 1 second time. Fuck the combine times he's undersized and gets washed regularly and we don't need an average undersized speed rusher at 16.

Yes, you absolutely can’t evaluate the times too heavily without taking into account the actual game film

If he came out last year I think his stock is higher. He had big time hype before he withdrew and now his stock is regularly seen as a late first flyer or early second. If he gets in the first I think it's from a team who has a hell of a roster and just wants to take a shot on a potential speed rusher and doesn't care if they whiff on one, like the eagles/pats/saints. If he came out last year I think he actually would've been in strong consideration for the ravens at 16. His stock just feels way lower now than it did a year ago

I remember Meyer once said that Price was the strongest player he's ever coached.

Have you ever touched a dumbell and barbell!! That isn’t how it works. If he could bench 40 reps and something were that wrong to cause him to max out at 8. Then he woulda skipped the event. It’s more likely he coulda been injured and the benching irritated it and he pulled out early. You would really have to watch him perform it. Did he pull out?? Then there is did he do his best and max out at 8?? Then there is he isn’t a bench dude and his max is 16-20 and he went through a bad day. Some players strong in the trenches aren’t strong in the weight room. But 16-20 is transferable to trench strong. If 10 reps is his max that could be a prob. And it would hurt his draft stock

yeah there were people tipping him to hit 40 reps
and he himself said that he expected 35...

this was all coming out of reports before this morning long before the injury happened which is why i found it interesting when i saw that it was him who had got hurt

i will defer to sledge on this but could he have done himself the injury just by pushing too hard?

Oh shit

They generally heal well but it will be 6 mos before he’s back to normal activity. Wonder how far he drops

Maybe not even drafted? Either way he'll be red shirting and some team will be hoping he fully recovers for 2019.

redshirting? if you had a "spare space" to carry him on the 53 he could probably practice before week 1 albeit you cant have a rookie going in blind but surely after a few weeks of the season you have to imagine he'd be ready to at least be active on gamedays and hopefully take over

no way this guy goes undrafted over a torn pec when sidney jones went 2nd round for a torn acl (that happened after this in the calendar - and even he was back and able to play before the end of the year)

Good point, I could see him being our second round pick with him dropping to us at 52. Even now, we could trade back into the late first toward the end and get him with the 5th year option just to see how well he recovers.

if im honest - it's a torn pec - depending on the severity he'll probably be held out of rookie camp etc. but he'll be in the meetings and depending on the severity of the tear (if it is a tear - unconfirmed until MRI) he could well be back and training before we even get to week 1

im much less worried about billy price than i was with sidney jones etc. because while a torn pec will be agony it's also unlikely to cause long-lasting problems - he might not be at complete 100% full-functional strength until the 2019 season but he'll be healthy within 6 months as long as the tear is straight-forward and is only a level 1 or 2 full or partial tear (level 3 is where it could get a little more complicated)
