2018 Forum Mock: Discussion Thread

We got a tender deadline and start of FA, yet?
We'll handle that shortly. Got a small unexpected hurdle to jump through. Will keep everyone posted about the dates. Also figured that we give some breathing room for the new members to get their feet wet. And I personally thought that running the audits this season was a necessity before we moved onto the RFA and FA.

After checking through the draft order, @RavensMania and I were able to spot multiple inconsistencies and therefore made several changes to the SoFs. Please be advised that the Draft Selections portion of your pages has the most up-to-date information on your picks. Fortunately, none of the picks have been traded. Examples of such were the Bengals losing 7 (12) to JAX for Chris Smith. The LAC lost 7 (16) to BUF and then to CAR for Kelvin Benjamin. NYG lost 7 (2) for Ross Cockrell. If you spot any other inconsistencies or potential errors with corrections, please PM a council member prior to making any changes yourself.

All of the SoF entries have officially been audited and corrected for every move up to today. Please remember to update them regularly and to follow the suggestions laid out in this thread.

I knew about losing the 7th for ages, and never even added it to my SoF. Thankfully that was one thing McAdoo actually didn't screw up for the Giants (conditional pick in a lost season).

It hurts to lose a talent like Rankins who was able to provide consistent as a DT and a base end, but it was tough to pass up the draft selections. And while Danny Shelton is a mostly one-dimensional run defender at this point, I felt that I had enough ability between the likes of Cameron Jordan, Kenny Clark, Henry Anderson, Robert Ayers, and David Onyemata to push the pocket on a consistent basis, which offsets his limitations. Vontaze Burfict will also hopefully aid the defense in reducing its allowed YPC from last season, which was among the worst in the league. It was certainly one of the main priorities of mine heading into this process and the additions should be of benefit.

Note: We are currently deciding on the beginning of our first bidding period, which will be RFAs and Special Teams. The tentative date could be as early as this Saturday. We will keep everyone posted.

that trade blew me away - sheldon rankins is cool and everything but danny shelton held together a run-stuffing unit and made it tick - a unit that had previously been awful in that aspect + you get the picks - my only reservation would be that i dont expect teams to run a lot vs the saints because they likely have to match the fast-paced, quick-strike, high-powered offence that the saints run...

That's fair. Shelton's demeanor can be somewhat off-putting and I'm a firm believer in interior pressure, and Rankins presence did allow Jordan to switch from RE and LE seamlessly. Fortunately, I do have Ayers to aid in that respect. And as you've said, Shelton was key contributor in the defensive turnaround for Cleveland when it came to the running game, which was a concern for the Saints. My chief drawback at this juncture is honestly in the 4 Stars that I lost in the trade itself. But at least it'll allow some cushion next season once the dead money begins to dwindle down. And this draft selections made it easier to swallow.

There will be other run stuffer(s) on the team, Rankins' rush ability, versatility and brains were worth it for me.

it was more the picks than anything - rankins is a damn promising player so i dont begrudge you that at all - he's also known to be a calming influence so you do get that leadership element on a young front 7 (although he also is young)

I really like him but that was the only way to smooth over the fact the Saints are paying 4 stars to trade him to me + Shelton's salary.

Colts
I've just noticed 4 teams never posted depth charts and can't remember any activity from those teams. I thinks it's the Cardinals, Colts, Falcons and I can't remember the last team off the top of my head
Colts are active, though, as Purplepitta himself contacted me for the Avril trade.
But yeah there are some teams who have indeed not been that active so far. Maybe they're ready to wreak havock on FA who knows

Real Life retirements still count in the game right? Eagles Punter Donnie Jones just retired and is no longer apart of the Eagles roster.
