2018 Forum Mock: Discussion Thread

In recent years, we haven't done so well in comp picks lately. I think the NFL finally told Ozzie that he had to share his compensatory picks with the rest of the league. Thus..... less compensatory picks than usual.
Only the last two yrs. the previous two we had 3 and 4 comp picks

we're not getting our money's worth in free agency i think - and we arent producing enough players to get comp picks back from (either because of injuries or just lack of production)

mike wallace will probably net a contract worth a comp pick if he is allowed to leave
Jensen will definitely net a contract worth a comp pick if he is allowed to leave
Hurst will probably net a contract worth a comp pick if he leaves

but brent urban likely wont (which he probably would have if he'd been able to start the whole year)
and crockett might have if he'd had even a half decent year (there would have been ample opportunities given how little tight end production we had)
and i imagine ben watson is either retained or retires...

any free agent we sign is gonna eat away at those fragile comp picks yet we cant afford to not go into free agency

essentially this is us bearing the fruits of 1 less fruitful draft class (the misses at the top in 2013) and us bearing the fruits of a fairly injured draft class (2014)

unfortunately the future does not look bright in comp pick terms because we havent even got to the 2015 draft class year yet...

Yep the poor FA and draft record in recent years is no longer working in our favor. Lots of wasted contracts and draft picks on guys that get let go after a year or never play, and then we have to go out to pay another FA to fill the gap.

which leaves us with fewer draft picks to replace players with - its a vicious cycle that you essentially need a couple of good drafts stacked together to get out of (my hope is that 2016-2017 will be the drafts to reset)

1. It's ridiculous how we (Ravens) came out with a mere 6th rounder.. NFL never fails to amaze me.

2. It's incredible how the frigging Seahawks GM (before me), was able to screw so many picks since the 2012 great draft. On a total 49, they managed to get just a handful of good players (Frank Clark, Tyler Lockett, Luke Wilson, Justin Britt, Paul Richardson; maaaaybe Malik McDowell and Shaquill Griffin; then Spencer Ware and Alex Collins who're not even on the team anymore).
Now, they trade away a 2nd for Richardson knowing they're not going to be able to retain him, trade a 3rd (2018) and a 2nd (2019) for Duane Brown.
The inept decisions of the present bring us to 0 day 2 picks, 0 cap space. Meanwhile, the abysmal past is landing 0 comp pick... I mean..Hawks are the NFC slightly worse version of our recent Ravens.

They've been coasting on the heap of talent that they brought in years ago. They've made some seriously puzzling decisions in the draft since then, especially on the OL.

I’d like to make a case that the Dolphins have made overall worse decisions lol

So far Oakland and baltimore the big winners in the trade stakes. That trade for mike evans is colossal. Such a bargain.

Oakland gathering up loads of picks, with 2 firsts, losing Crabtree whos likely a cut irl

I would advise reconsidering using your June 1st exemption on Taylor. His current cap hit - dead cap lands the regular savings at 9.5 Stars, just .5 shy of the base salary savings. I would recommend using it on another player. Just a thought.
Pigging backing of this. Could regulars help new comers with wee details like this even if it makes it more beneficial for them. Great shout truth

Appreciate it. I was heavy in the trade market for cut candidates in the mid-round range, but when the Evans deal presented itself, I had to make myself more willing to trade my 3rd. No brainer for me, although I did have to make sure I could make the salary work since the Ravens don't have much lol

Out of the 11 players on the Miami Dolphins that were set to make over 5 million this upcoming season, I’ve managed to get rid of all but 4 of them. Contemplating cutting another. Finally ridding this team of bad contracts and overpaid players.
