2018 Forum Mock: Discussion Thread

Oh yeah there are definitely warts there. Pick doesn’t come without its risk. I’m at least glad his pro day came before I had to make a decision. I think if those were the numbers he put up during the combine, nobody would be batting an eye. Still not great numbers, but as you mentioned in another post, no one really expected him to put up athletic numbers. Question is absolutely why he did so poorly at the combine in the first place.

i think post-combine at his pro day whatever he did would be problematic - either his athleticism is historically bad and even scouts who lowballed him were surprised and then that gets confirmed at the pro day or he improves like he did which creates questions about his effort pre-combine

there of course could be reasons but we arent party to those interviews etc.

or it may even be that (for some stupid reason) he didnt take the combine seriously and it was the kick he needed to finally focus on football

there are problems inherent in almost any outcome because of how historically bad his combine was

Great pick. Highest player left on my board and I was hoping somehow he would be forgotten until I was up next..

You could have had him if you didn't pick Gesicki and start that chain reaction of TEs. I was holding out hope for Goedert or Hurst but when Gesicki came off the board, I knew to start looking elsewhere lol

My Oline might be in bad shape, but I don’t even know who the other TEs are on my own roster lmao so I’m happy I took Gesicki when I did.

i mean he had a history of off field problems as well as a positive mairjuana test at the combine... and then you add in the poor combine performance
A marijuana test at the combine has happened before without dropping someone from top 15 talent to undrafted and unwanted.

He had a myriad of issues, but the combine sealed it.

Before I get this day started....

It took me a good amount of time to convince myself that Orlando Brown was worth it last night, but I just had to trust my instinct. I've always been one that cares more about the tape than the underwear olympics, but Brown's certainly gave me pause. When I thought about it though, the combine didn't really tell me anything I didn't already know. My first two notes on Brown were "technique is raw" and "needs work in an NFL weight/conditioning program." I was very pleased with what D'Alessandris and Roman were able to do with shoddy players last year and I think they'd be perfect to help this mountain of a man reach his potential. With my limited time this year, I haven't been able to look into players as much as I typically do, so I'm also letting some of the draft pundits factor into my decision making and many of them still have Brown as one of their top tackles and a day 2 pick. It could be a complete disaster, but it was a risk I thought was worth taking in a rather poor OL class and really, draft as a whole.
Orlando Brown also fits the RT slot for Roman’s offense like a tailored suit. Most other teams I have legit concerns for him. He comes here...... I like that. Some players are tailor made for teams. Browns fits in with the ravens. Good pick
