The Movie Thread

New infinity war marketing materials and Hawkeye still doesnt exist in them - it's getting silly now lol - directors have confirmed he's in the movie but he doesnt even get a character card poster thingy that literally every other character has lol

this is great trolling (seemingly needlessly) by the directors and studio of marvel fans lol - id love it if ultimately he literally doesnt appear in the movie at all (id actually really hate it because i loved what they did with hawkeye in ultron)

Literally just walked out of Chappaquiddick and oh man...

So, after the first 20 to 30 minutes I was worried because the first act had been slow, and uninteresting while leading up to the accident, but as soon as it happens the movie just locked me in.

Two things I want to point out right away that may have been less noticed upon most first viewings.
1.The Soundtrack
And
2.The contrast

For 1 I again, started out worried, as the backroung they used for the initial party scene just didn't give with me, but again the 3 later quarters saved it, as it allowed the tense scenes to build, and plays along perfectly. The main theme they keep coming back to is almost an instant classic.

For 2 I need to admit ignorance, for I have no idea if these events and the moon landing truly happened at the same time, but if they didn't then whoever decided to put them together was a genius, as the slow triumph of the moon landing contrasts perfectly with the slow crash of Ted Kennedys political career and constant shots of the moon and repeated voice overs of commentary on the landing bring us back.

Even if the events did coincide, whoever thought to use them the way they did certainly has a strong understanding of filmaking.

As far as performances go, I can't name a single weak link, as Jason Clark plays Ted perfectly, sounding exactly like a Kennedy. Kate Mara only has a total of about 20 minutes of screen time, through both natural story and flashbacks, but she really steals the show as Mary Jo. Even Bruce Dern kills it, and he only says about 4 coherent words throughout the film, using his face much more effectively. Especially in the "You will never be great" scene.

To wrap, as I have been almost rambling, (I can't help it sometimes when discussing movies) Chappaquiddick was better than I thought it could ever be, and Ted Kennedy was portraid perfectly. As the movie definitely shows you what side it's on (not unbiased) but through Clark's scenes with Dern, we see a reason to have even a little sympathy for his upbringing, even after his irresponsible actions and subsequent response, and it ends on an equally somber note.

If I had to use one word for this movie it would either be "effective" or "infuriating"

Saw a bunch of movies recently

You were never really here
Joaquin Pheonixs hitman movie, this one was more about the man than what he does. It was jarring yet interesting and well acted, but overall its too overwrought. Score and editing was very interesting to me. You'll either love it or hate it.

Ready Player One
Not a bad movie but geared more towards teens even with all the 80s nostalgia, the conclusion is obviosu but how they get there is unpredictable, overall you see a movie like this for the fantastic CGI and visuals.

A quiet place
Really well made thriller/horror with a genuine sense of dream, some plot issues can take you out of the movie so will a large viewing audience since the movie is so quiet.

Game Over Man (Netflix)
Awful mess of a movie, and I usually dont mind the occasional low brow comedy. Avoid.

Death Note (Netflix)
Pretty interesting horror/dark comedy remake, the two leads are great especially Willem Dafoe but the production values have a very obvious Netflix feel to them. Its more like a tv pilot for a hit tv show.

Roxanne Roxanne (Netflix)
I actually watched this by accident but stayed for the acting. Nice representation of conflict and life of a pioneer rapper but like many biopics suffers from no buildup or payoff.

Ferdinand
A surprisingly good animated John Cena vehicle, this might be the funniest animated film Ive seen and was well deserving of its spot behind CoCo at the Oscars.

Pacific Rim 2
I enjoyed the action and plot direction in this one but it still suffers from the lack of charisma that plagued the lead in the first film, theres also some obvious omissions and pandering to Chinese audiences. Throw some money at the Rock and Donnie Yen and this movie could have been huge.

Peter Rabbit
I streamed this one for my nephew, its definitely more of a kids film and Im not a fan of James Corden but it wasnt bad.

Den of Thieves
Like a big dumb version of Heat but with weird casting, not a fan of Ice Cubes kid except when hes playing Ice Cube.

Avengers Infinity War
Now I went into this with lukewarm expectations and came our very happy, the movie is filled to the brim with action and interaction set pieces between the new allies, it actually takes place over multiple locations at the same time and gives running time for character and relationship development, its one of the best juggling acts Ive seen. The stakes and emotions are high too with Thanos killing multiple Avengers, and his portrayal is impressive in its depth and even empathy which lends a kind of realism to his purpose that you dont see in comic book antagonists. This is easily MCUs best movie.

His spoiler is pretty well known but damn it. Love going into movies not thinking about them. Try to give myself a 2 week buffer of anything related to it unless it's an older movies in the series.
