Why though? I already spelled out how it gives you a better chance to win the game. Why is it a bad call other than going against football traditionalism?

I guess I'm still hoping that we can scrape into the playoffs and discover something about our team that kick-starts our season. The receiver group in particular is still very talented (including Andrews in that) so if we hit on a formula - like up-tempo or just balls-to-the-wall letting it fly then I do believe we can still be dangerous. The defence, for what it's worth, are still fighting like hell. Even a small spark on offense could change the complexion of things.

Good: Really like Bateman, he's going to be a star next year. Physical outside play that we've been missing for a long time. Bowser is a monster and he's only getting better. He was dominant today. Westry played really well and I hated the PI call, I seriously don't understand it but he's got good length and speed. Huntley played well too, he just needs better pocket awareness for right now.
Bad: We have the worst tackle duo in Football. They literally cost us the game and Philips effort is downright pathetic. Villuaneva was awful and I hope he's not back on the team next year, even as a back up. Not only did he allow that strip sack but he had 2 holding penalties. Garrett is a generational talent with elite bend and is a tough match up for just about anyone but Big Al sold hard today.

I’ll take any sprain over an Achilles injury. Thank god. Hopefully it is just a low ankle sprain. Fingers crossed.
worth pointing out that on at least one of those bateman plays, huntley made a poor throw into double coverage and bateman just made a great play on a ball in the air

exactly - had a great playcall just before the 2 minute warning that would have saved us oodles of time on the clock when he called the hollywood bomb
we just have to be consistent about what a bad playcall or design actually is - most failed plays arent bad playcalls
that's overstated - there's a level of adrenaline that can allow you to limp off with the pain - it's more telling that he was carted to the locker room
and that catch on the sideline I thought for sure that pass was long, but Bateman made a great play on the ball.
well we will know more tomorrow then.
game situation - we were trailing by 2-3 scores... can't huddle in the same way
and we didnt have clock issues before lamar left either - we ran a load of no huddle/tempo stuff before huntley came in too
it's perfectly reasonable to desire a change for various reasons - we just have to be honest about what's happening on some of these plays and not going after roman for poor execution (not every bad play is his fault)

Major props to Huntley for hanging in there. You can see the lack of awareness and lack of arm strength but he's more than capable as a backup. Give him a full battery of weapons (aka a running game) and we probably find a way to pull this one out without Lamar.

You need 2 at some point... you can do it early and know what else you need to do or you can do it on the last one an be put in a do or die situation essentially. Yeah just those sack fumbles though. Give him credit though he played well enough to get us back in the game and a chance to win at the end.
it's the only way to make the call - it's so obvious that it shouldnt be remotely controversial (because almost every HC does it this way now)
the reason you go for it the first time is really simple...
if you don't get it, you have more time to game-plan around not getting it and you know whether you need 1 score or 2 scores with more time to adjust one way or the other
if you kick the pat then you have learnt nothing, you still need a 2pt conversion, but now you've got less time to adjust if you dont make it
sure you've kept it a 1 score game for longer but that's meaningless if you're going to lose anyway
i mean there's all sorts of reasons why that could be the case...
trailing naturally means a couple of things happen:
1) the offence is forced to pass more and run less
2) the defence might play softer, less aggressive coverage

He definitely deserves a lot of love. He was really good at getting the offense lined up and just rolling with what the defense gave him. Also love a few of those tosses giving his WRs a chance 1v1. I think i even saw a back shoulder throw !!!

you mean when he threw the ball away... and got called for intentional grounding?
tried back-shoulder three times i think
first one was a miscommunication with watkins
second one was the bateman OPI
and i think he was trying for a 3rd one on the bateman catch (that should have been a TD) but put it too far inside
but that's the power of the underthrown ball in the NFL - receivers can adjust to it in the air

Same series on an earlier down, throws the ball out of bounds. No grounding , leaves us with 10 to go rather than 14 or 15. Gets called for grounding a few plays later , o well , can’t win them all. Still played well
