@rossihunter2 can you verify that? I don’t know way too much about him other than what I looked up
only just saw this edit to your comment:
turns out i was lower on tryon than i initially thought - had a 3rd round grade on him
for context - i had early 2nd round grades on both oweh and payton turner
and a day 3 grade on rousseau (in fact interestingly i have rousseau only 1 grade above and ranked only 1 spot ahead of daelin hayes)
Here are my draft profiles and notes (most of them written pre-pro-days) for all 4 of those guys (in brackets after their names I've put what I gave them in draft grade and finalised big board ranking) - but ive put oweh and tryon first for comparison's sake
OWEH (early 2nd - 39th):
- 6’5 257lbs
- Height-weight-speed freak athlete – crazy fast and explosive (both upfield and laterally) and he’s so powerful with great length and can bend – apparently at his size ran a 4.3 40…
- High effort
- Might need to fill out his frame a bit (which will help him in the running game where he can be driven off the ball right now) – plays too high generally in the run game but survives on the edge right now purely through his length and natural strength and good instincts
- Quick enough to explode when in space/in the backfield – and legitimately fast enough that he’ll chase down receivers and backs in space and to the sideline
- Shows good discipline vs the option
- Has powerful hands when he connects – intuitive with his hands to get clean at the top of his rush – not super technical but has reps that show power – flashes really good hand usage but it’s inconsistent at best
- Often seems to rush without a plan – has the power to go up the middle but it’s not how I’d expect him to succeed in the NFL – hasn’t developed a signature pass move yet
- Shows nice footwork working laterally to the flats
- Wins with absurd quickness – first step explosion to immediately challenge the outside and can dip and bend
- That’s basically the entire profile – he’s incredibly raw with very little technique or anything else yet
- The flashes and the athletic profile are so intriguing but he’s about as raw as he could be right now – but he’s got tools you cannot teach and nothing obviously stopping him from developing the other stuff
TRYON (3rd round - 85th):
- 6’4 251lbs
- Opted out
- Athletic and got great burst – has the speed to really test the tackle’s outside shoulder – good length
- Not obviously really bendy or flexible as a rusher but he’s powerful – and shows off loose hips in other aspects of his play
- Really comfortable dropping into coverage – reads the QB and has a nice feel for what’s going on around him in zone and then closing on the ball - has some experience in man, mostly covering RBs and has the athleticism to stick with it
- Run defence is inconsistent but flashes – has the attributes to be successful and has had some success using his length and strength to stack and shed and can play with good leverage – but too frequently loses the football, is susceptible to misdirection because of poor discipline – sometimes takes himself out of the play in the running game too – effort on the backside is spotty – but absolutely dominates TEs
- Read and react and technical improvement required in the running game
- Dangerous pass rusher when he can win with his speed quickly (either with his burst to get around the edge or with speed-to-power or another adjustment to a tackle over-setting like an inside arm-over) but when faced with any sort of significant contact he’s often taken out of the play and doesn’t counter well – clearly tries but not much impact with his hands after the initial move – too often just runs straight up the middle of his blocker(s) despite the fact that his bull-rush isn’t particularly effective
- Really effective running stunts
- Generally though he’s active with his hands throughout and actively attacks the hands of the OL through his rush – frequently gets hands off initially
- Plays with relentless effort – often had the thankless job of rushing in a true 3 man front
- Often rushing without a plan
- Has some quality tools – not a ton of polish – has reps that pop with his potential on the film but far too many that don’t show much at all
Rousseau (early 4th - 133rd):
- 6’5 260lbs
- Basically only played 1 year the position and then opted out of 2020 – but really productive
- Extremely long, and can bend impressively given his height – wingspan looks incredible – great ball get-off, has some lateral quickness – quite thin although was spotted in street clothes at the senior bowl and was apparently filled out a bit more – versatile rusher
- But on tape it doesn’t look like he’s fully grown into his body – but looks pretty powerful
- Not afraid to take on pullers – processing generally is inconsistent – looks like he plays a little bit rushed in the running game like everything’s happening quickly around him
- Good eyes when he gets in the backfield – really quick reactions vs the mesh point and identifying the ball-carrier
- His lateral stepping can look awkward with his long legs but he can explode in short areas laterally – absolutely scoots along the LoS
- Uses his length well to stack and control blockers and it allows him also to play through contact and get around blocks even without shedding – it’s hard for blockers to keep hands on because of how long he is – mixed in with his lateral quickness makes him really slippery to deal with – combined with his good get-off and he can really re-set the LoS quickly – dominated tight ends
- Surprisingly good leverage given his size
- High motor
- Will rush from all different spots along the line to take advantage of mismatches the coaches had identified - but maybe looks at his best when rushing inside – has quickness and length to really challenge guards and overwhelm them at times either lined up at 3t or on stunts – slippery athlete
- Flashes nice hands with a swipe – but also uses his length to get into the tackles at times (just really inconsistent) – more often he’s losing the initial engagement and has to win with a secondary move or through overwhelming with his length
- Has the ability to convert speed to power
- Has some experience in coverage but is pretty ungainly especially in man where he’s got no chance vs twitchy athletes but has the length that with some development he could be used well dropping into passing lanes in zone coverage
- His wingspan is a massive benefit to him – really helps him finish – massive tackle radius – and he closes well
- But it’s all super inconsistent – just a really raw prospect
- Very unrefined prospect with not a ton of tape or experience at the position
TURNER (early 2nd - 37th):
- 6’5 270lbs
- Powerful and really long and high effort – shows some first-step quickness explosion and decent lateral ability
- Flashes some lateral quickness and tons of power in his hands – has some surprising bend
- Sometimes looks lost when he doesn’t win with his initial move – hand usage is inconsistent but constantly active – uses moves (like the swim) but doesn’t stay as clean as he could – wins with pure force and fury
- Has a well-stocked arsenal of rush moves – his bull is powerful, he’s got a push-pull, the swim move, a dip move which showcases some impressive flexibility for his size, a chop/rip, long-arm and occasionally even a spin – they all have power in common but he also shows enough quickness (and hands) to win outside
- Shows nice speed in the open field to close
- Played all over the line and his weight has been up and down at different times (for positional reasons rather than weight issues) – has a long and thick frame – maybe not enough to hold up inside vs the run consistently but definitely a possibility
- Spent time working to improve his ankle flexion to allow him to bend moving from 290lbs (inside) to 270lbs (DE) – it really shows up in his ability to force the edge through contact
- Plays with pretty nice pad-level – doesn’t seem to lose leverage a lot
- Has the quickness to penetrate and chase down from the backside
- Very high effort
- Needs some technical fine-tuning especially with his hands and his counters but has impressive tools
- Spent more time playing inside at the senior bowl
