oh im not arguing our OL is in good shape at all, but i do feel like if we do have our 5 best out there, then roman should be able to cook up a quality run game, and lamar should be able to provide enough heroics to make the passing game effective.AV played only the first quarter. I don't even really disagree with you at all. My greater fear is we're likely not to have that 5 throughiut the year and God forbid come playoff time if we had a line that looked even remotely like the one from last night we'd be in trouble. I'm not the only one clamoring that the tackle depth is putrid. Wondering if there's anything that can be done at all

its a big "if' though, all 5 healthy starting OL seems to be a rare feat.
i also feel like who we have playing at G this year might not really matter, this OL is gonna live and die by the health and performance of our tackles and bradley bozeman100% this. Not only was the OL missing most of its starters/projected starters, especially when AV and Bozeman left, but they were also mostly playing out of their normal positions which made it even worse. IF (and it’s a huge emphasis on if) we can get stability and get our starters back, I don’t think this line will be piss poor and porous like last night. Won’t be stellar but it’ll be at least average enough to not make us lose games by itself
hollywood's fine - hes basically practicing without being practicing (doing sprints and workouts while practices are going on)What's the status on Hollywood? Haven't heard anything about him. More concerned about him than Bateman .
While I understand the ravens depth charts are mostly just for PR, I still find it odd that Ben
Cleveland is the third string LG right now with powers as first.
I actually think Harb's would hire Drew Wilkins, the outside linebackers coach to take over if Wink leaves.
its filled in by an intern in the PR department most years - really is meaningless
I’ll do a full recap at some point, but I also though Brandon Stephens was huge bright spot. You can tell he’s raw but he can do so many things. Considering he’s switching to a new position, I thought he had a pretty outstanding showing. He’ll only get better with more time and reps.
i thought all 3 of the notable rookie DBs did some nice things - will be rewatching the game to take some better notes but Stephens, Washington and even wade showed big promise
This is EXACTLY how I felt about the game. Here's the thing though, I'm actually more worried about the OL now than I was before the game.
Just think about it. If you told me the line for starting the game was going to be Phillips, Powers, Bozeman, Mekari, AV, I would have said that while suboptimal, the line should be decent. I mean those were the college positions for the LT, LG, and C and AV has exclusively been at RT in TC. Not only were they not decent, they were atrocious. We did not have any positive running plays let alone a first down.
The reason I'm more nervous is because yeah Stanley will be better than Phillips, but there may be no upgrade over Powers at LG, there's definitely no upgrade over BB at C, KZ is an upgrade over Mekari, and there's no upgrade for AV. So realistically, how much better is this line going to get? If it was atrocious, will it move to maybe poor? Maybe decent? I don't see it moving to good or strong. It's the one glaring and I mean glaring hole on a stacked roster.
Abso fucking lutely this. He’s a LB coach but he is not a play caller and never has been, and frankly, when it comes to scheme, the nfl has passed up the Ryan family.
the difference is that 2 of those guys coming in are genuine difference-makers - you're talking about an all-pro at LT (albeit coming off an injury) and Zeitler's likely the 2nd best OL on the team too
i think it'll be a genuinely good OL when they gel and get healthier later in the year - it sucks though that Cleveland wasnt able to play yesterday - he's the kind of guy who will massively benefit from extended time in preseason games
As I recall, Geno stone was a draft prospect that a lot of people on here really liked. I could be wrong but I feel like someone said they had a second or third round grade on him and when we got him at the end of the draft it was a steal.
Then he went on to be really behind and actually got cut before returning later in the season.
In his first opportunity to do anything for the ravens, albeit a preseason game, he had a decent game. The 2 interceptions were either thrown right to him or a crazy tip, but beyond that he had a nice game.
Is there even a spot for him on the team? I don't think many of us thought he was going to make the squad before yesterday. And obviously yesterday doesn't mean he's going to, just that he played a good game.
Hayes and Oweh also had nice moments! Tylan didnt have many opportunities, but did make a circus catch out if bounds. Don't think Mason makes this team.
I agree with you, I made a comment a few posts back which you'll probably see saying, if we can get to that healthy and gelled line in the playoffs then we're golden if we can't due to more injuries, that unit might be in trouble
holy shit guys they genuinely had Oweh at gunner on a punt lol - took on the double-team and got downfield haha
it's unfair how athletic he is at that size lol
Given how Averret has been playing I don’t think we will keep him in the roster. There has to be a team willing to trade at least a 5th for him and I’m sure we’ll take that given he’s in a contract year. Even with him gone we’ll have marlon, peters, jimmy, tavon, wade, and westry who thus far has shown he could be a serviceable depth piece outside.PFF loved him - i think there's potentially a competition at the bottom of the DB roster depending on if they decide to keep more than 10 DBs - i think there's space for 1 of him or Ardarius Washington or Chris Westry
