The 2021 Offseason Thread

Id like to wait until after this season to pay Lamar no matter what tbh- were going to have to pay him probably at least 45/ yr anyway so might as well do it after he wins a Super Bowl...
Thats a huge risk for him though.. shit crazy, he really bout to get 100+ guaranteed... shit feel like im the one getting it lol

I believe Jimmy will be put on temporary IR and Westry will be brought into the 53 man roster. He is too long, sticky and rangy to risk putting him on the PS to start off. He is a perfect foil to TEs in coverage. 6'4" corner who plays outside well? Come on!
There's no IR in the preseason.

Marshall not good at all.. him and wade by far the worst cbs on roster. Jimmy played aj brown much better than hump did. If it came down to it, we likely need jimmy for that titans matchup now that thwy have julio
I mean we're talking through like two weeks of practices, of which half have involved pads. So not exactly the sample size coaches are looking for in terms of player evaluations.

Barring any injuries, Marlon, Peters, Tavon, Averett, Elliott, Clark and Stephens look like locks to make the roster. Let's assume they're keeping 10 DBs on the 53 man (last year it was 9). That leaves you 3 spots. I don't think they throw in the towel on a 5th rounder like Wade in less than one season, so I think he's getting a spot based on draft pedigree.

So if you assume two spots available, that leaves Dorsey, Harris, Marshall, Westry, Warrior, Levine and Jimmy lobbying for max of 2 spots, and may only be 1 spot, if we carry 9 like last year.

Levine has been a coaching favorite for seemingly a decade now for his ST impact, we know they love Warrior at this point, and I mentioned Marshall because, while I don't think he makes the team, he's somehow managed to stay around for a 3rd year, despite being a 4th round pick in 2019 who's basically never really played for us.

As I suggested, I think Jimmy ultimately makes the team, but I don't think it's as big of a lock as people think, especially if one or two of these younger Corners shines enough in camp.

Possibly PUP?
He already practiced, so no. Can't go on PUP once you've practiced.

There's no real point in a preseason IR, because you've got 80+ bodies in camp.

He could potentially go on IR to start the season if he's not healed, but if its truly a low ankle sprain (which usually heals quicker than a high ankle sprain), he's got 5 weeks to heal before the opener. If he's not close, sure, they'll put him on IR to start the year. But if it was like a 6 week injury, he'll just sit out week 1 and then come back.

Would obviously think with a very seasoned veteran like him that the likelihood of him playing any snaps in the preseason is pretty close to 0%, but I'm not sure anybody cares about that either. Doesn't seem particularly likely we're going to see several guys in the preseason, including Stanley, Boyle, and maybe not even Hollywood.

Got it! And I don’t want to rush anyone back. We’ll need them in the 2nd part of the season when our competition cranks up a few notches

Man listen, if you think jimmy wasnt a lock to make team before this injury and probably still is, i dnt know what to tell you man.. maybe we not talking about the same jimmy smith.

He's not the shut down corner he was in his prime, but Jimmy is still an above average starting CB. There was no way he wasn't making the roster barring a season long injury. A young corner would have to look like Prime Time in practice to take that spot.

Jimmy will likely be a Raven until he hangs ‘em up

No only is that a risk for him, but it's also a risk for us. If he does win a super bowl and doesn't have a contract, he will be the 50m dollar man

People forget that Jimmy is the difference between us winning and losing games. The man has an understated brilliance that he had passed on to Marlo. Both those men are not only elite CB but they just play like Ravens.

Lol for real, like I get the spirit of his argument, but let’s not even begin this debate, jimmy has been an absolute lock since we lost to the bills and our offseason began

I meant to start the season.
Lol man we better not put westry out there..
Why not? I've only read great reviews about his play. He seems to have leveled off lately per Zrebiec, but otherwise is still on the roster bubble. Here is a direct excerpt from Jeff's article:
"Young cornerback Chris Westry had a good start to camp and then leveled off a bit. However, he turned in a solid day. He denied Sammy Watkins on a deep pass, then a few plays later he got his hands on a pass intended for Deon Cain. Westry was considered a roster long shot when camp started, but he’s at least played his way onto the roster bubble".

I dnt mind him making team.. id love for him to make the team i can have him in my madden lg. He top 3 when it comes to usering in madden lol but as far as seeing him covering someone on sundays..... i doubt we will see it unless its a 2014 type year

Share some recent feedbacks on his performances in coverage. All I've heard is he has great coverage skills from what I've read @Deebo813

I don't see anything less than 5
Let me tell you what I think. The only way a $43+/yr contract makes sense is to roll multiple years into this contract that is post TV and Union agreement. That is going to increase the cap allocation for each team substantially. So, 5 yrs down the road, 43M for a QB will look pedestrian.

I say we are going to lock Lamar up for a minimum of 7-8 yrs or even more if possible. After 2024, it'll begin to look manageable.
