2018 Free Agency

Not what I had in mind. I think Landry should have got 5 year deal at about $12 mil, much easier to spread the cap and structure it in a way that he can be let go after 3.
Someone mentioned that already - if the run stuffing nose guard is worth that much to us, how come more than competent receiver isn't?
LMAO! Another not so good analogy and completely different discussion whose answers are obvious.

You asked about Wallace’s salary last year so you know in order to compare apples to apples you have to use similar contract structure.

So let’s say Landry pens a contract, his first vet deal, 5 years averaging $12 mil.. Because it’s his first vet contract conservatively guessing with signing bonus there’s maybe $40 mil. of that guaranteed. Say they structure so there is a $5 mil. hit in 2018 leaving $35 mil. to be “spread out”. Assume his cap jumps to $12 mil. in years 2 and 3. Letting him go in year 4 would produce $11 mil. in dead money over the last 2 years. Maybe not a completely accurate accounting, but you get the idea.

At this point getting receivers on the squad no matter how it’s done is a do or die situation. Not discounting Flacco’s injuries and subsequent poor play, or untimely defensive collapses, not having at least an average group at WR and TE has been a huge contributor to missing the playoffs the last 3 years. That said, because of the present WR FA market signing Landry was never really a realistic or even viable solution to that problem.

If they don’t get some horses in the stable by September that will be the time to consider efforts a failure, not now in March.

what if Landry didn't want a contract structured in that fashion. He obviously is confident in his ability and value as a receiver to want to be paid 14 million a year. We all know when it comes to contract offers it takes two to tango so even if The Ravens offered that it doesn't mean Landry and his agent would have been willing to accept that. Landry is only 24 years old at this moment and has been pretty durable throughout his career. Not every player likes to have their contract structured where the team can let them go after two or threes years. Some players like a little more security and value going to a team where they envision themselves being on that team for more than 3 years. The Saints, The 49ers, and The Bears all had interest in Jarvis Landry and they also had more cap space than The Ravens. Something obviously was holding those teams back and even The Browns who have more cap space than all three of those teams haven't come to a contract extension with Jarvis Landry.

No - used Wallace as an example since you think Landry is 7-8 mil. WR. He clearly isn't, no matter how the market looks like. Even the Ravens were in the picture all the way until the end, they couldn't have been by throwing that number around.

‘Cmon, just stop. Wallace’s average salary was $5.5 mil., not $8 mil. and as mentioned in hindsight he wasn’t worth that #. Sit back, have a few pints and wait to see what happens. lol

Free agency worries me, what wr would wanna come here? No money, bullshit opportunity to put up numbers, disastrous team who won't give you a chance to contend.. we have jack shit to offer a wr

Maybe I was dreaming but The Ravens were definitely contenders last year to make the playoffs before losing to The Bengals. I get the doubts but I think it's little too early to be so negative. free agent receivers such as Mike Wallace and Steve Smith Sr were productive during their time here and The Ravens is still a well respected organization. I know Joe Flacco hasn't been at his best since 2014 but it's not like no receiver wouldn't want to come here. It's probably more likely that Sammy Watkins and Allen Robinson wont but who to say Marqise Lee, Paul Richardson,Jordan Matthews, Albert Wilson,Micheal Floyd, John Brown, Donte Moncrief, Taylor Gabriel,Dontrell Inman and etc can't be Ravens by the end of next week.

The Ravens have the opportunity to create more cap space if needed as well and I don't see how a wide receiver can't look at The Ravens situation and not be intrigued. There's alot of number 2 and 3 wide receivers out there that will be looking for a opportunity to prove themselves and The Ravens are one of the teams that will give them opportunity to do so. I think there's many teams with the number 1, number 2, and number 3 position wide open like The Ravens. Somebody going to want to take advantage of that and no true competitive player would think other wise.

We knew then he was a way better QB though. I feel bad for Hundley, he looks lost out there most of the time.
Rogers played behind and practiced with Favre for 3 years, an advantage Hundley was not afforded. Not saying Brett has Rodgers talent, just saying it’s way too early for him to be considered awful. If he doesn’t get traded it would be interesting to see the competition between him and Kizer.

Well, we're a lot closer to contending than some of the bottom feeder teams with huge cap space, and at least we do have a history of FA WRs finding some success here, like Wallace, Boldin, and SSS. On top of that Flacco was heating up despite only having Wallace as a legit WR, and we will still have a solid defense that keeps us in the hunt.

It's not ideal by any stretch, but we're not in that bad of a position.

Dude everybody would be doing cartwheels if we got Landry. Every time we don’t sign or a retain a player. Some fans will say he was overpriced anyways. Osemele was overpriced but Brandon Williams needed to be paid franchise money. Now the same people that were clamoring for Landry are calling him overpriced now. These same people will applaud Mosley a mediocre linebacker signing for $12mil per!! These same people applauded near franchise money paid to a 32 yr old Safety Eric Weddle. Every move the ravens management makes or don’t make was the best move possible to some fans.

I was relieved we didn't sign him. Sure he's a good player, but I also didn't want to pay a #2 receiver #1 money. Absolutely not.
