Update on Landry from a Dolphins reporter:

Most interesting note is that Landry wants $14M while an offer came in around $10M per year. Curious what that does to the situation. Would Landry be content on the tag or would he rather take less than he thinks he's worth on a long-term deal? If it's the latter, it could increase the chances of him staying in Miami long-term as they've been reported to have offered him more than that already.

But, on the other hand, is that relationship broken? Landry and the Dolphins are pretty much having a dick measuring contest right now, and one of them is going to have to make a decision within the next week. Landry looks bad right now by threatening to sign the tender "imminently" which of course hasn't happened yet. Seems the Dolphins called his bluff.

Oh yeah wasn't saying that calling his bluff did anything - just illustrating that the relationship might be strained enough where neither of the parties are all that interested in a long-term commitment.

oh they 100% are not into each other lol - i think it was reported during the negotiations that it was not going well and that neither side was close and that landry wasnt particularly keen on staying with the dolphins in the first place

there's still a part of me that wonders how much he really wants to play for the ravens

I really don't know what Landry wants in all honesty. Most of the reports on him leading up to this point have been nothing but speculation. The only things we really know are that his asking price is pretty high and the Ravens and Bears have checked in. Everything else has to be taken with a grain of salt.

I'm pretty sure what Landry wants is to:

1] Make as much money as he can, this is his best opportunity - team choice would come to that as well
2] Screw Dolphins in the process if he can, last year's fallout over Miami shopping him in the middle of the season is irreversible

2014 he had a decent rookie season. In 2015 with Luck and hasselbeck he had a very solid season.
2016 Luck and Hilton were a match made in heaven and Dorsett and Moncrief got the short end of the stick, but he still had 7 touchdowns. This year he only played 12 games, and played well when he was targeted. But the Colts were flat out terrible. He’s a solid red zone target and he can take the top off a defense as well. He’s got all the tools to be a #1. Out of all your “breakout potentials players” he should be at the top of the list.

Not even close. I don’t fall for a player like he’s a Victoria angel cuz ravens were reportedly interested. Personally I think his time with Luck is his max. Hilton or no Hilton if he coulda done more Luck woulda found him. But the ravens were rumored to be interested so for now I guess that makes him the best possible signing of all the young potential breakout receivers.

FWIW there's a rumor that the Dolphins have not ruled out releasing Suh(LOL), if they happen to go along with that move then I can hardly imagine them not keeping Landry.

They would be saving like no money cutting him. Just wouldn’t be worth it. They need to restructure his contract.

yeah they cant get out of that deal til next year - they are probably better of extending him for a lower yearly average (if they can) or they just have to grin and bare it

brent urban's contract is 1mill base salary + 100k bonus - no incentives currently attached to the deal (but they may just get filled in later with the NFLPA like with pitta) - as it stands his cap hit will be 1.1mill - that's great value especially after there were some reports that he was getting 2.5mill

Jarvis Landry has officially called the dolphins bluff and has signed the franchise tag - so unless he gets traded he's gonna be playing for the dolphins for 16mill - maybe when soliciting contract offers he found the market didnt agree with his agent's valuation of him... either way this saga means that he will no longer be a free agent - he's either a dolphin or he's traded - this of course does mean that he wouldnt count against any comp pick formula but also he's gonna cost a pick in a trade anyway

I don’t think so. Him signing that tag gives him more leverage in a sense that Miami is 16M on the hook if they keep him. They will be forced to make some cuts and I just don’t believe they’ll make that investment on someone they tried trading mid-season when he was on a much lower cap Number.

Not necessarily. They could be hitting hard right now trying to work out something long-term that reduces that number for this year.

Money talks, and it seems that's what Landry is after. Still think there's a high likelihood he gets moved, but definitely not discounting the possibility of him staying at this point.
