i think everyone and their mum is expecting the salary cap to go bananas after this CBA which should reset the market at every position
Totally agree, which is a big reason why I don't really care too much about these backloaded deals that are longer than 3 years or go beyond the new CBA, ie Brandon Williams.

Really interesting development...
Willie Snead is visiting the ravens today - he's an RFA (original round tender) which means if we sign him we dont give up draft compensation but any contract we offer him can be matched by the saints if they want to - the fact they didnt put a 2nd round tender on him despite it only costing 1m more suggests he's not a high priority

snead is an interesting case - he was a udfa and broke out as a rookie and a sophomore getting around 900 yards both years but then after a suspension for a DUI last year only managed 100 yards in his remaining 10 games - im not sure if that was due to performance or whether he just lost opportunities (i dont know what his snap counts were) but he's certainly a player with promise - i imagine part of the reason for the visit is that we will want to make absolutely sure that if we pay him that his "red flags" arent a problem

if oz and eric and pat and steve are comfortable with the character concerns then this could be a really good signing depending on the financials

I’m with this. Dude can ball when given the opportunity, and he’s only 25. Crabtree, Brown and Snead heading into the draft would be GREAT.

In other news, Ben Watson is apparently working towards a deal with the Chiefs. Surprised he's not retiring, although he did show he still has some left in the tank last year. It'll help us in the comp pick equation, though. A bit unexpected.

if that happens then its a freebie for us

Snead, Brown, and Crabtree is a WR corps overhaul if I've ever seen one.

Not sexy but solid. Sets us up perfectly to take a WR in round 1, TE round 2, and oline in rounds 3 and four

its a solid baseline to be elevated by a good couple of draft picks - im ok swapping ryan grant for willie snead

If you can find a way to structure a contract to where the Saints won't match without killing ourselves, I'm all for Snead. He has the potential to be the best of our WR signings because he'd actually be a longer-term fix than the 1 year Brown deal or the maybe 1 year Crabtree deal.

Would it have to be better deal than we gave to Grant before the physical in order for the Saints to let him walk?

Not exactly sure what it will take after his disastrous 2017, but the good news is that the Saints are in a much worse cap position than us right now. I don't think it will be hard to find something that they're unwilling to match, but it still has to be good enough for Snead and his camp to want to sign it.

It depends on the wether or not the Saints really want to keep him. If they really want to keep him then it would take a big, back loaded deal to get him.

Oh wow jack mewhort just got a 1.5m base salary with 1.5m incentives deal - i realise he was on i/r the last 2 years but like wow that's nothing... surely half the teams in the league would have taken a flier on him for that price

Drew brees is not our QB

I am oddly old school but I am completely okay with taking OLine in literally every round, especially the early ones, at this point and just hoping enough turn out to be good to field a top tier OLine because a top tier OLine behind a solid QB will dominate with every below average weapons. An OLine can carry in a way that an elite receiving core could only dream of.
